Summary:

Barr is seeking an environmental field technician to join its Minneapolis office. This person may work independently or as part of a project team to collect and compile soil and groundwater monitoring information, collect samples for field screening and laboratory analysis, and operate and maintain environmental remediation and water treatment systems. Work may also include oversight of contractors and documentation of construction work. Fieldwork opportunities for this position will be year-round and may include out-of-town travel.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in environmental science or related field
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
  • Demonstrated track record of performing work safely
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing approximately 50 pounds
  • Ability to identify and independently carry out tasks needing completion
  • Strong problem-solving skills, putting forth effort to meet client needs despite obstacles
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to stay well-organized
  • Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project needs (up to 50% travel and at least 75% field work expected; project needs will vary seasonally and over time)
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience working with contractors
  • Previous experience collecting groundwater, surface water, or soil samples


NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
