Temporary Shaft Coordinator

Position Description:

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position is accountable for overseeing and managing all shaft activities to maintain established targets and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the day-to-day operation and coordination of Hemlo shaft activities
  • Responsible for all shaft personnel including cage tenders, shaft, deck, and hoist operators
  • Maintain compliance to the Occupational Health and Safety Act for mines and mining plants
  • Experience in various construction tasks including timbering, infrastructure installation, rebar for cement and form work and shaft maintenance.
  • Experience in shaft slinging, performing shaft inspections, changing guides, and installing and removal of brattice
  • Demonstrated shaft maintenance and construction experience
  • Schedule daily, weekly, monthly, and annual activities to ensure efficient utilization of personnel and equipment
  • Ensure all hazards are reported and investigated in accordance with relevant procedures and
  • Lead, coach, mentor employees
  • Ensure all employees have the competencies and qualifications required to work safely and productively within the areas of responsibility, and that they understand and comply with the requirements of their position description
  • Perform physical inspections to determine if work meets company standards, quality, production, and safety.
  • Provide employees with a safe and healthy work environment by ensuring proper training, following, and understanding of the operating procedures, PPE, operation of equipment and effective communication.
  • Work with the supervisors on daily, weekly, and monthly production plans ensuring availability of manpower, equipment, tools, service, and resources.
  • Identify and organize the resources required for these plans, equipment, personnel, and services to achieve the established production targets. Organize these schedules to maximize the utilization rate for each personnel and equipment.
  • Understand and follow the plan (maintenance and production)
  • Be accountable to meet production targets
  • Enforce compliance consistently and fairly all applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Anticipate and implement solution to problems that may occur in the operations through trouble shooting and problem solving.
  • Implement and adhere to all company policies and directives.
  • Optimize the use of operating consumables to minimize cost.
  • Actively participate in the Continuous Improvement activities to improve all areas of the mine. Ensure that these activities are aligned in the same direction as the company.
  • Promote and encourage supervision in establishing the continuous improvement culture.
  • Identify Continuous Improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain proper working relations between mine and maintenance department including contractors
  • Receive and give accurate, timely feedback to supervisors and employees
  • Follow maintenance priorities
  • Ensure operating objectives and targets are effectively communicated to crew


Qualifications:

  • Previous supervisor experience is a must
  • Minimum of 5 years of related shifting experience or experience working in shafts
  • Knowledgeable in shaft maintenance requirements, standards, and procedures
  • Sound understanding of both the principals and preventative maintenance and maintenance planning.
  • Strong communication, leadership and team building skills.
