This position will be located in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia

Provide functional leadership for all maintenance activities for both Smelter and Precious Metals Refinery (PMR), so as to ensure optimal return of investment from fixed and mobile plant and equipment. Enable the success of the Operations group through preventative maintenance strategies and ensuring optimal outcomes in safety, people, productivity and cost.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Reporting to the Operations General Manager, responsible for the development and implementation of the overall Fixed Asset strategy, which may include plant and equipment selection, maintenance, upgrades and replacement schedules. Manage the mobile equipment maintenance strategy.
  • Contribute the development of business cases for Capital Investment that may improve the productivity and profitability of the Smelter and PMR.
  • Lead a Team of Maintenance (E/I/C/M) and Planning Superintendents in providing technical support and direction to the Maintenance department within PTFI's new smelter. Ensures direct reports and departmental teams have clear and specific goals to support the downstream operation. Ensures appropriate knowledge and training programs for direct reports
  • Accountable to develop risk mitigation strategies that ensures business continuity in the event of a major failure or unforeseen events that impact productivity. This may include having critical spares and contractors on standby to provide contingency support where required.
  • Collaborate closely with the Global Supply Chain (GSC) division to ensure that inventory management supports all Maintenance activities including major shutdowns.
  • Collaborate with Tech Services and Operations teams in ensuring optimum daily operations of the facilities with both a short and long-term outlook.
  • Responsible for overseeing all major shutdowns for the Smelter and PMR.
  • Ensure development, maintenance and execution of safety programs for all operational activities.
  • Ensure that proper training is provided for all employees in operation, maintenance and safety functions.
  • Cultivate an inclusive, diverse and high effective team culture at the Smelter by living the example of leadership outlined above.
  • Develop and nurture a transformative culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team along with a disciplined risk-based approach to change management, including representing the site on company sponsored teams, such as transformation office Agile Teams.
  • Identify and agree to the function of the Maintenance department with other stakeholders in the smelter team; build and grow an effective Maintenance and Planning team; ensure team members have clarity on their roles including expectations across the different role levels. Support with necessary training to enable them to provide services expected of them; coach and mentor team members to improve their effectiveness.
  • Ensure development, identification, and completion of Maintenance related readiness activities throughout the preparational period to ensure the operational teams are adequately prepared and resourced for commissioning and ramp up activities moving into full plant design operations


  • Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or related field with ten (10+) or more years of experience in an area directly relevant to mining.
    • Prior major operations and/or start-up experience is preferred.
    • Integrated Strategic Planning experience in a complex work environment.
    • Technical Management experience - Fixed Plant Maintenance for Hydro and Pyro metallurgical circuits.
    • People leadership experience of a large workforce - of both employees and contractors.
    • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
    • Financial acumen - cost center ownership.
    • Adept at high value Commercial negotiations.
    • Skilled in managing effective communication throughout all levels of the organization, both verbal and written.
    • Working knowledge of SAP, EMS, and other business systems.
