Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. In 2016, the site poured its seven millionth ounce of gold, 20 years into its mine life. The initial Gilmore Expansion Project is expected to extend mine life to 2030.

Job Description

This is a professional position. Under the direction of the Senior Accountant, will perform site activities related to financial and cost reporting, general ledger accounting, and compliance with Kinross policies, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and any other statutory or legally prescribed standards.
Will assist in budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning through the use of financial models. Ensure service and operating standards are met processing transactions that impact site cash-flow. Assist site accounting team with timely and accurate variance analysis across multiple departments while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross' values.

Job Responsibilities

• Coordinate accounting and financial activities across multiple site departments.
• Advises on a variety of internal and external requests regarding cost analysis and financial statements.
• Recommends and implements improvements to financial procedures and controls to maximize operational efficiencies.
• Investigates, researches, and analyzes information and issues related to internal accounting as needed.
• Prepares technical documents to support decision making.
• Prepares technical reports and documentation and retains financial records to ensure compliance with industry and operational requirements.
• Communicates information related to variance analysis and help determine proper path forward.
• Provides information to site operating departments on Kinross financial reporting standards, compliance requirements, and policies.
• Helps develop other department personnel to enable performance of duties listed above.
• Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
• Assists with training site staff in financial reporting and compliance subjects.
• Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
• Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
• Works without risk or harm to self and others.
• Punctuality and regular attendance required.
• Performs other related functions as assigned by supervisor.

Education and Experience

• Undergraduate business degree from an accredited University
• Accounting degree preferred.
• CMA/CPA or MBA preferred.
• 2+ years of related work experience in a mining or continuous process environment.
• General Ledger experience with an integrated ERP/MRP software package coordinating multiple business units and proper allocations preferred.
• Previous experience in the mining industry with a SOX regulated entity is preferred.

• Possesses good communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills, and the emotional maturity to work successfully as part of a diverse and multi-faceted team of professionals.
• Working knowledge and skill with minimum intermediate level with P.C. utilizing Microsoft products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and database familiarity.
• Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
• Must be a self-starter with a focus on meeting deadlines.
• Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
• Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
• Requires valid driver's license.
• Maintains total confidence and ability to work independently
• Ability to work as part of a team and believes in teamwork
