Job Description

The Engineering Superintendent is responsible for the overall management, control, monitoring and development of the Engineering Department, his direct reports and the additional departmental staff under his management. The incumbent is responsible for setting and maintaining engineering systems, standards and controls in keeping with sound project engineering practices, Indonesian mining regulations, PTFI and PTRI standards. This position is also responsible for actively participating in interviewing and hiring new recruits within his department and placing them accordingly.

The Engineering Superintendent is responsible for providing direction to the Project Engineering General/Foremen and reviewing, evaluating and revising where necessary, the detailed design, project schedule and project forecast. The incumbent will attend client and Redpath Senior Staff meetings and will perform the duties of principal liaison regarding all engineering matters pertaining to the project.

The Project Engineering Superintendent will also direct, manage and control commercial, contractual, operational and technical activities related to PT Redpath's involvement in the overall Project with a focus towards achieving budget and schedule targets in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Manage the Project Engineering group.
  • Provide technical expertise, guidance and leadership to the client and to his own subordinates relating to detailed engineering design, sound engineering standards and practices, broader mine designs, safety regulations and standards, equipment specifications and tolerances, productivity rates, cost analyses and mine development project benchmarks.
  • Establish training programs, controls and standards for department personnel.
  • Liaise with the client and operations internally regarding operational sequencing priorities.
  • Ensure engineering systems, standards and controls are firmly established and utilized.
  • Ensure computer and software systems, standards and technology are established and utilized.
  • Compile, review and submit technical reports both internally and to the client.
  • Recruit, focus and organize department personnel to achieving targets and tasks.
  • Establish training programs and standards.


Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Mining Engineering (P.Eng) or country equivalent
  • Undergraduate degree in mining engineering discipline is required. Graduate degree in related engineering discipline or business administration preferred.
  • In-depth and broad knowledge of engineering, construction, operating and technical skills.
  • 15-20 years experience in various design and construction projects in mining and/or tunneling industry, including extensive experience in operational and project management fields.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
  • Ability to coordinate multi disciplinary cases to meet operation target performance requirements for quality, quantity, cost and environment and safety.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and direct a large workforce.


Safety:

The Engineering Superintendent sets departmental safe working practices in conjunction with PTFI and PTRI safety standards. The incumbent is able to effectively promote and maintain safe working standards among all of his subordinates. The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring that himself and his staff complete and submit monthly Safety Accountability Procedure reports in accordance with PTFI and PTRI standards and will lead accident and incident investigations within his department.

The Engineering Superintendent works closely with the trainees and will help each trainee improve their knowledge and skill in quality control and surveying duties. He will make sure the trainees understand how to perform proper quality workmanship.

The Superintendent / Project Engineering General Foreman Rotational is able to work safely while protecting himself and others in the underground environment also ensuring that all employees under his supervision, learn to follow the proper safety regulations and procedures
