About this role

What will you be responsible for?

The Metallurgy Planner is responsible for supporting development of proactive action plans for future ores throughput and recovery through characterization and testing. Maintaining a library of Standards, Guidelines and Technical Specifications for Processing. Support Processing SME's with creation and maintenance of site throughput and recovery models.

Leadership Results
  • Promotes safety at Newmont. Acts safely on a personal basis and encourages safe practices with others in the team.
  • Perform duties as Technical Services Processing representative at each of the sites allocated. Ensuring that current and future potential production related issues at a site are highlighted and actioned with appropriate controls entered into the sites annual business plan.

Studies/Project Support
  • Undertake metallurgical testwork and ore characterization of new developments, cutbacks or extensions of existing mines or near mine expansions, adhering to Stage Gate standard practices ensuring that reports are prepared and delivered in an agreed timeframe.

Operational Support
  • Document and maintain process models in collaboration with Processing SME's that accurately predict current and future ore variability and performance, with particular importance on the 1-5 year time horizon. The models should cover throughput and recovery predictions specific for each site.

Research and Development
  • Participate in research and development in field of expertise as part of the overall R&D program. This includes idea generation, producing scopes of work, execute work, data analytics and final reporting.

Standards/Guidelines
  • Ensure that Processing Standards, Guidelines and Technical Specifications are maintained at each site and gaps evaluated and addressed where appropriate. Identifying where projects or improvements can be made to close the gap.

Relationships
  • Develops and maintains relationship with Process Superintendent / Chief Metallurgist, Senior Metallurgist, Process Director, Metallurgy Analyst, Senior Reliability Engineers, Geologists, Project Engineers and key stakeholders to deliver exceptional business results and support for the assigned operations.
  • Develop relationships with project, metallurgical and external consultants and the NMS metallurgical laboratory that benefit Newmont project development activities.

Your training, skills & experience checklist

Here is what we would need to see from you!

Knowledge:
  • B.Sc./Eng. in Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineering or post graduate qualification for other undergraduate disciplines.

Experience:
  • Experience should include a minimum of 8 years in metallurgy. Experience in gold/copper metallurgy will be an advantage.
  • Operational, process development, or laboratory experience of at least 5 years required. Preferably production planning activities for part thereof.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems through innovation and "outside the box' thinking.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence Superintendents, managers and key stakeholders.
  • Write technical papers and presents on topics relating to metallurgical technologies at conferences, workshops, and/or Newmont events.
  • Language skills, other than English, though not a requirement, will be looked at favorably, especially French and Spanish.


Working conditions & location

  • The primary location for this position is Denver but qualified applicants located anywhere in North America are encouraged to apply as Newmont will entertain fully remote or hybrid work arrangements (with travel as needed).
  • Position may be required to travel to, and assist other domestic and international sites.


The salary range offered for this role is $ 88,825 to 109,725 . The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate's salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company's performance and their own individual performance.
