Description

To provide technical input in the development, implementation and maintenance of the enterprise GIS platform; to develop implementation strategies for GIS technologies for internal stakeholders to maximize multi discipline usage of GIS data; to develop and maintain GIS information and supporting databases for management of geospatial content.

  • Coordinates the procurement and storage of spatial data, with a priority to the collection of in-househistorical data; works on all aspects of digitizing, capturing, georeferencing analog or scanned data andimages. Constantly seeks legacy records related to, and useful for exploration, from all locations in the company.
  • Performs geological and exploration analyses of spatial data using GIS Technology and generates reports when necessary of the results
  • Perform library service duties to include organize, store, and retrieve technical information as well as catalogue and index internally produced files, reports, and maps.
  • Develops operating standards in coordination with technical staff and coordinates standards to all GIS users within organization
  • Assists with the Management of GIS projects
  • Creates and manages online tools using spatial data and coordinates distribution of tools to other users within organization
  • Serves as assistant database administrator for spatial data
  • Communicates with internal and external data users
  • Perform other duties as requested


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geosciences, Computer Science, Geography or related field and at least four (4) years of experience with GIS software related to exploration, or geology, or mining, including experience with GIS software and platforms including the creation and administration of databases(SQL & PI farms); OR
  • Master's degree in Geosciences, Computer Science, Geography or related field and at least two (2) years of experience with GIS software, including experience with GIS software and platforms including the creation and administration of databases (SQL & PI farms)


Preferred
  • Ph.D. in Geosciences, Geography or Earth Sciences
  • B.S. or above in Geosciences, Geology, Computer Science or related fields
  • Work experience in mineral exploration, especially porphyry copper deposits


Skills & Abilities:
  • Specialized knowledge of chemistry of geological materials; Geochemistry; geophysics; experience in one ore more of: ArcGIS Pro, Google Earth Pro, Leapfrog, Mapinfo.
  • Foreign language skills to better understand data in that foreign language.
  • Computer science skills.

  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, and work on elevated platforms
  • Occasionally may be required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the work day
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
