Job description:
The Cost Controller performs all aspects of Cost Controls including project setup, cost reporting, cost control, and invoice approval processes prior to payment. The role will report to the Lead Cost Controller and the project manager is their primary customer.

Specific duties include:
  • Ensure proactive methods in sharing knowledge and experience, raising areas of difficulty and concern and assisting in improving work processes
  • Establish cost breakdown structures with project manager and setup new projects in cost control system which describes the full structure to be used in the Cost Control System and that align into the Work Breakdown Structure, taking into consideration the interface with the Project Planning Function, where applicable
  • Ensure the timely coding, collection, analysis, trending and reporting of all project expenditure, together with the budget holder(s)
  • Properly allocate actual costs and commitments for all FQM projects to correct cost codes and ensure budget, commitment, incurred and forecast costs are current in the cost control system
  • Work with projects team (engineers, procurement, site planners and project engineers/managers) to provide monthly updates to estimates to complete and calculating project forecasts
  • Prepare on time monthly cost reports for project managers (including various formatted cost reports, variations, cash flow projections)
  • Review and prepare for approval project invoices
  • Analyse costs for trends and areas for management focus to ensure on budget cost outcomes and communicate issues to project management
  • Provide input to estimates of project costs as required
  • Other tasks and responsibilities that may be assigned by direct manager

    Attributes we are looking for:
    • Experience in analysis of varied sources of incoming cost data, compile and translate to forecasted costs
    • Has worked in a mining project or construction environment - site or office based with direct construction labour experience
    • Experience with cost forecasting and trending will be advantageous
    • Strong communication skills
    • Strong analytical skills
    • Inquisitive nature - thinks and does not just follow
    • Results orientated - able to work in a small, nimble. "make it happen" culture
