The Coffee Mine Project ("Coffee") is a proposed hard-rock gold mine. Coffee will be a premier, high-grade, open pit heap leach gold mine project, built to world class standards, located in Canada's Yukon Territory. Temporary Environmental Coordinator - Coffee Project

Reporting to the Environment Supervisor, the Environmental Coordinator will perform a range of duties at the Coffee Project including coordinating environmental and compliance monitoring and implementing the environmental management system. This role requires the candidate to maintain high levels of safety and demonstrate environmental awareness by following all government and corporate regulations and policies. This is a 18-month contract that will include rotations at the Coffee Project during the field season and office work, with the possibility of working from home, when the exploration project is seasonally closed.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, perform and supervise environmental monitoring including, but not limited to, water quality and hydrology monitoring, groundwater monitoring, pre-clearing bird nest and denning surveys, snow surveys, invasive plant monitoring, geotechnical monitoring, reclamation monitoring and soil sampling. Perform maintenance and calibration on environmental monitoring equipment.
  • Coordinate the internal compliance monitoring of exploration permits, regulatory requirements, and internal standards for related nonconformances.
  • Manage data collection process, perform data analysis and interpretation, review for quality assurance and control, and ensure compliance to legal and regulatory reporting commitments.
  • Implementation and further development of the Environmental Management System to ensure permit, regulatory and internal sustainability guidelines are met for exploration operations.
  • Coordinate with other department stakeholders to effectively manage environmental aspects of their work and to resolve issues that arise.
  • Evaluate the severity of environmental impact events, potential effect on the environment, determine appropriate response or escalation and assist with investigations and maintain the environmental event database for tracking all environmental events on site and implementing corrective and preventative actions.
  • Coordinate and deliver all required health and safety programs for the department including daily toolbox talks and job hazard analyses.
  • Complete projects with minimal supervision, using technical knowledge, as well as knowledge of environmental and mine operations procedures, techniques and regulations.
  • Design and deliver education and awareness programs to all site employees, environmental monitors, field consultants and/or contractors on Environmental Management Plans to ensure they are aware of their responsibilities, environmental impacts and risks associated with the activities and apply procedures to mitigate the risks. Coach direct / indirect reports to ensure competency and skill development.
  • Maintain records to ensure environmental compliance and prepare reports for internal or external stakeholders.
  • Assist in planning and coordination of concurrent reclamation work during exploration activities.
  • Other activities as assigned by their supervisor.


Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Sciences
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in environmental work at a mining or exploration operation, ideally in a supervisory setting
  • Demonstrated high regard for safety, excellent work ethic, and good communication & organizational skills
  • Comfort with public speaking and presenting in front of an audience
  • High ability with MS Office suite of software
  • Ability to work with staff and contractors in a positive and respectful manner
  • Enjoy working outdoors in all conditions at a remote site
  • Able to work in an exploration camp setting on a rotational basis (schedule will depend on business needs)
