Purpose

The Process Electrical General Foreman has responsibility for all electrical & Instrumentation maintenance aspects of the Merian Process Department's areas of responsibility. This includes but is not limited to, team development, maintenance, repairs and reporting. Responsibilities include supporting the Electrical Superintendent and the overall achievement of processing plant objectives by insuring maximum availability of the plant while meeting all health, safety and environmental requirements
The Electrical General Foreman is required to effectively lead a team of electrical and instrumentation supervisors which supervise repairs and maintenance, troubleshoot problems and ensure availability of all electrical equipment.
This position is also to provide support in project management, development of design and equipment specifications.

Essential Duties

  • The supervision of expatriate and national process electrical and instrumentation supervisors, trainers, tradesmen and contractors.
  • Provide mentoring & technical support to the E&I team to ensure skills and knowledge development
  • In conjunction with the business needs, assist in the identification of the training needs for the workforce, develop and coordinate training courses and programs to address those needs. This includes but is not limited to support in the planning and designing of training policies, processes, programs and activities required to meet the operational needs of Newmont Suriname
  • Lead the implementation and use of effective electrical/instrumentation maintenance planning
  • Monitor and report key performance indicators for the department
  • Develop, implement and improve asset maintenance strategies to improve plant performance and increase uptime.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, execution plans, commissioning requirements and QA/QC validation.
  • Perform electrical installation inspections including inspecting modifications and upgrades.
  • Assist with hiring, reviews, training, disciplinary, and other personnel actions
  • Lead by example in all aspects of Newmont's visions, values, and social responsibility.
  • Ensure department's compliance with the requirement of Government of Suriname's Agencies, Newmont lending institutions, shareholders' environmental, health and Safety legislation and company regulations.

Training & Experience

  • Technical Diploma (NATIN/AMTO) or trade certificate from a recognized institute or training organization or Engineering Degree from a recognized institute or training organization
  • Knowledge and understanding of internationals electrical & instrumentation standards and compliance requirements
  • Minimum of 10 years in mining, utilities or other heavy industry.
  • Mining, construction, utilities or other heavy industry experience is essential
  • High Voltage experience, including switching of voltages up to 13.8kV.
  • Knowledge and skills in refrigeration and instrumentation would be highly regarded.
  • Experience in instrumentation and process control systems.
  • Ability to read, write and converse in both Dutch and English at a high standard.
  • A strong commitment to work safety.
  • Ability to communicate to both work teams and managers
  • Intermediate computer skills including ability to use MS Excel, Word and other Office programs efficiently without supervision.
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the NEC (NFPA), CEC, IEC and other relevant electrical standards.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the electrical/refrigeration maintenance tasks required to ensure the safety and reliability of equipment.
  • Proven leadership ability with a focus on safety and maintenance performance
  • Ability to manage & perform high voltage isolation and issue access/vicinity permits
  • Knowledge and understanding of the electrical installation standards and the ability to ensure installations are compliant to these standards
  • Familiarity with working to a budget and ability to control costs.
  • Able to hold themselves accountable for their words and actions without making excuses


Working Conditions

  • Must be capable of and willing to work for extended periods outdoors in a tropical climate.
  • Wear all personal protective equipment including steel toe shoes, long sleeved shirts, or any other equipment to perform duties safely as required by the Health and Safety plan.
  • Surinamese National - Capable and willing to work up to 14 x 12 hour days in a remote mine-site camp location followed by 7 days off on a rotational basis
  • Expatriate - Capable and willing to work up to 6 x 12 hour days for 6 weeks in a remote mine-site camp location followed by 3 weeks off on a rotational basis (6 weeks /3 weeks Roster)
  • Capable and willing to work overtime and varied schedules to when required ensuring reliable operation of Process Plants.
  • Capable to meet the physical demands of the job including stairs, lifting, pulling, entry into confined spaces and working at heights.
  • Willing to attend training and participated in skills development programs to improve knowledge and understanding of safety management & trade practices
