Job description:
Purpose
The Surveyor is responsible for undertaking a full range of surveying functions embankment construction and monitoring, tailing deposition planning and pond level management.

Key Accountabilities and Challenges
  • Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama.
  • Develop standard safe working procedures and actively participate in HSE initiatives.
  • Ensure work activities are in compliance with H&S (e.g. isolation, lock out and tag out), quality and environmental standards and procedures.
  • Create and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure the use of best practise techniques and procedures for the TMF including associated equipment.
  • Determine precise location and measurement of points, elevation, areas, contours and volumes.
  • Demarcation of sand construction cells limits.
  • Conduct tailings beach surveys to determine beach lengths and area using drone technology.
  • Calculate TMF pond volumes including end of month reconciliation for placed volumes.
  • Establish benchmarks monuments on dam's crest and survey for settlement as per the Operations, Maintenance and Surveillance Manual.
  • Mentor and work with the surveyor assistant in survey techniques.
  • Produce various maps as requested based on field surveys.
  • Operate, calibrate and maintain survey equipment.
  • Work with Planner and Operations Supervisor to prioritize tasks.
  • Perform periodic surveys of quarrying and borrow pits progress of both overburden and hard rock/metalliferous/ coal/iron ore reconciliation.
  • Enforce housekeeping standards in all designated work areas.
  • Implement FQM Way culture across the team - "Smarter, Bolder, Driven, Together".
  • Act as deputy for colleagues as required.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor QA/QC.
    Skills, Knowledge & Experience
    • Education
      • Technical, or technological college level degree in Surveying (educación universitaria a nivel técnico, tecnólogo o licenciado).
      • Skills
        • Strong communication, and interpersonal skills.
        • Strength in organising work and time management skills.
        • Strong cognitive and analytical skills for problem solving.
        • Good verbal and written communication skills and able to analyze data and provide clear and accurate reports.
        • Computer fluency is a must.
        • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
        • Experience
          • Minimum 2-3 years experience in construction, mining or equivalent industry.
          • Knowledge of survey related software such as Minescape, Surpac, Map info, Auto cad preferred.
          • Knowledge of survey theory and Total Stations instruments use.
          • Knowledge of drone operations highly regarded.
          • Language
            Fluency in Spanish and English is highly regarded.

              Working Conditions
              Cobre Panama is a remote site. The position is offered as Residential BIBO.
              Work hours and rosters may vary as required by the business.
