What will you be responsible for?

Manage tax research and planning function, merger and acquisition activity, and tax restructuring function for the department.

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:

• Coordinate with and advise those individuals responsible for tax accounting and US reporting of all international tax information and compliance activities.
• Facilitate the collection of information for and implementation of tax planning ideas and global project pipeline with other corporate departments, as well as with the Company's international administrative and operating units.
• Collaborate with Director, Global Tax to initiate, manage and serve as a primary control and advisory liaison for all departmental interactions with Treasury, Accounting and Legal departments with respect to cross-border movement of cash, dept instrument construction, currency denomination, interest rate determination, legal entity journal bookkeeping and/or elimination, and foreign currency exchange events.
• Interact with cross-discipline employees and consultants involved in project acquisitions and divestitures; understand the merchant banking, legal, accounting, treasury and management goals and constraints of the Company, while articulating the ramifications and importance of tax to the proposed transactions.
• Lead the preparation of, review and maintenance of transaction binders for all transactions requiring documentation in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley.
• Ensure that all components of US tax research and pertinent international tax analysis is accurately detailed in a timely manner and shared with the Tax Compliance and Tax Accounting departments to adequately support future US tax positions.
• Summarize recommendations of comprehensive worldwide tax analysis on merger and acquisition alternatives.
• Review monthly Newmont Capital Summary and Treasury Report to ensure awareness of company transaction.
• Reinforce and support the department's goals, objectives and philosophies in interaction with other corporate fields, including merchant banking, legal, treasury, accounting, and business planning, as well as with Newmont's international administrative and operating units.
• Ensure the timely completion and approval of performance evaluations and annual goals, including the inclusion of individual continuing education plans for training and technical expertise.
• Actively train and mentor tax staff, seniors and managers in research and compliance activities.

Additional responsibilities

• Conduct regular continuing education sessions for selected topics and research activities for the tax department.
• Assist in identifying and handling global corporate tax risk and global tax planning opportunities.
• Advise in the protection of the interests of Newmont in all cross-border tax matters.
• Manage the research and make recommendations on the international components of proposed company transactions as they relate to US tax account provisions, valuation allowances, foreign exchange positions and long-term tax liability accounts.
• Research US and international tax consequences, and provide a comprehensive worldwide tax analysis, on merger and acquisition alternatives.
• Review international components of proposed company transactions as they relate to US tax account provisions, valuation allowances, foreign exchange positions, and long-term tax liability accounts.
• Collaborate closely with Canada, Australia, France and Ghana administrative and operating units for impact, optimization and interaction of US taxes.
• Interface, in an advisory capacity, with members of the Newmont's capital, legal, treasury, accounting, and business planning groups.
• Limit the Company's exposure to multiple tax jurisdictions and resulting tax leakage by analyzing the effect and interrelationship of international operations on the Company's US tax status.
• Manage the long-range tax planning, legal entity structuring and sensitivity analyses to minimize the Company's overall tax position, cash taxes and worldwide effective tax rate.
• Research emerging tax issues, communicate findings and recommend actions for tax savings and tax mitigation opportunities.
• Regularly review Newmont's organizational structure to eliminate superfluous and/or administratively costly legal entities, especially in conjunction with or as an aftermath of mergers, acquisitions and business combinations.
• Review Joint Venture Agreements and cross-border investments for recommendations on tax efficiency and consistency with departmental strategies.
• Take an active role in cross-training, developing, mentoring and disseminating information to all tax managers and staff on a regular basis.
• Actively manage the Company's after-tax position, balancing cash needs of the US parent against subsidiary earnings and profits condition, US foreign tax credit position, FAS 109 effective tax rate impact, local country repatriation laws or restrictions, and partner cash needs.
• Optimize and administer the IRC Section 863(b) foreign source income position and defense, as well as improving Newmont's extra-territorial income exclusion position or its replacement.
• Review each company's Earnings & Profits computations and tax basis balance sheet compiled by tax staff/seniors.
• Provide assistance with the review of foreign information returns as needed.

Your training, skills, and experience checklist

Here is what we would need to see from you!

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, Business, or related field with a minimum of 10years of tax experience with emphasis in tax research.
• CPA required.
• MS, JD, and/or LL.M. degree highly helpful.
• Strong tax accounting skills with proficiency in US GAAP, tax compliance, corporate consolidated returns, state tax returns and exposure to international tax compliance.
• Excellent analytical, interpersonal and project management skills.

The position is located in the Denver corporate office.
Frequent travel to domestic and international sites required.

The salary range offered for this role is $ 113,520 - 148,995 . The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate's salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company's performance and their own individual performance.
