The Nuna Group of Companies is now accepting resumes for Equipment Trainer/Safety Coordinators . These roles are for Nuna's newest adventure located in Northern Canada, Nunavut.

All successful candidates will be required to clear all pre-access conditions which will include criminal and security backgrounds, full medical /physical testing, and Drug and Alcohol testing.
Due to the location of this remote worksite rotations will be 8 weeks in / 8 weeks out *
Job Duties:
  • Evaluate operators on various pieces of equipment (ATV/UTV, Back Hoe, Dozer, Excavator, Fire Truck, Grader, Hagglund, Forklift, Light Vehicle, Skid Steer, Snow Cat, Tandem Dump Truck, Wheel Loader Etc.) and be able to review, analyze and sign off on their capabilities to deem competency.
  • Possess experience with the above equipment in order to provide training on their safe and productive operation.
  • Administer the site's Safety Program daily.
  • Develop and maintain the required Job Hazard Analysis, Standard Operating Procedures, and Safe Work Procedures and ensure they are distributed to the necessary Nuna / Client / Customer personnel, and then filed in the appropriate locations for employee access.
  • Review work sites, equipment, procedures, and practices with the intention of identifying and correcting hazards.
  • Identify, deliver, and administer all required safety training.
  • Post all Safety bulletins, Safety Posters and Safety rules and Regulations.
  • Assist Project Manager(s) in accident investigations, analysis, and preparation of accident
    reports and summaries.
  • Ensure that all pertinent safety reports are submitted as required.
  • Prepare a description of identified unsafe conditions and the steps taken to correct these
  • Prepare a copy of inspection reports on equipment.
  • Prepare a copy of Field Safety Inspection checklist.
  • Ensure that corrective action has been taken whenever deficiencies are identified.
  • Review accident reports to keep up to date on the project and the Company's safety performance.
  • Undertake other duties as requested from time to time by the Project Manager.
  • Ensure that the job site is safe, free of hazards and / or dangerous conditions prior to the commencement of any work.
  • Attend scheduled crew change meetings as sponsored and required by the Company.
  • Utilize the safeguards, safety appliances and personal protective equipment or devices provided pursuant to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, including the Mines Act of the province or territory in which your workplace is located.
  • Provide guidance and direction to employees with respect to Nuna policies and procedures.
  • Read, understand, and enforce Nuna's IHSEMS.
  • Ensure all employees are Fit for Duty.
    • Workers receive site specific orientation and general safety training.
    • Workers possess and use appropriate PPE.
    • Workers are properly trained prior to operating equipment or machinery.
    • Workers are attentive and mentally aware, free from the effects of drug and alcohol.
    • Lead the conduct of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) with your team and ensure employees perform JHAs when required.
    • Investigate all health, safety, and environmental incidents to learn root causes. Share lessons learned to help prevent future incidents.
    • Conduct daily inspections of the workplace.

  • Minimum of 3 years working as a safety coordinator in a remote work site,
  • NCSO status, or equivalent (CSO, CRSP).
  • Previous experience as a field trainer for larger off-road heavy equipment such as Loaders, snowcats, profilers, haul trucks, etc.).
  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment is considered an asset.
  • Heavy civil, mining and/or exploration work setting experience is considered an asset.
* Covid-19 Quarantine periods up to 14 days will be required before each rotation.

  1. All candidates must be proficient in English, both verbally and written. (Bilingual candidates preferred).
  2. Have experience as requested in the job description above.
  3. Able to work in a remote location for extended rotations.
  4. Clear all pre-access testing/requirements.
  5. Eligible to work for any employer in Canada.
  6. Reside within Canada and have a valid Canadian Passport.
