Reporting to the Program Director, Water Strategy, the Program Manager, Water Monitoring and Evaluation provides strategic and tactical input to inform management for water quality and quantity, aquatic ecosystem health, human health and environment and regulatory risk management. You will be responsible for leading a team who monitor and evaluate Water Science, Aquatic Science and Fish population and health information to enable the planning and execution functions and interpret information to inform management actions.

Responsibilities:
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Find opportunities to reduce environmental risk through project and program design
  • Lead a team responsible for delivery of relevant water-related plans and programs associated with the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan and the Permit 107517
  • Enable the design and implementation of monitoring and assessment programs to meet business needs and regulatory requirements
  • Investigate cause of unexpected results and initiate follow up with Improvement Initiatives
  • Provide guidance and support water technology studies and communicate results of monitoring and evaluation programs internally and externally
  • Develop and support collaborative working relationships with government agencies, Aboriginal groups and communities to support sustainable mining in the Elk River watershed
  • Solid understanding of commitments, permits and associated provincial and federal requirements
  • Provide direction for integrated effects assessments to provide management and business planning to minimize risk
  • Develop and maintain planning, policy, and guidance documents to support change management for the diverse programs
  • Communicate information to gain resolution of complex issues or challenges


Qualifications:
  • Degree in Environmental Science or related field, with an advanced degree
  • Minimum fifteen years’ experience providing technical and strategic direction on water quality and quantity, aquatic ecosystem health, human health and environment/regulatory risk management associated with resource management
  • Knowledgeable in federal and provincial compliance practices and regulations related to water quality, aquatic health and resource development
  • Experience in aquatic and human health risk assessment and knowledgeable in technical understanding of water chemistry and water quality
  • Experience in Progressive business leadership with a record of success
  • Transformation experience in a complex business environment, strategic development, multidisciplinary initiatives and project and program management
