Description

Under general supervision provide blue stake services, including but not limited to all plant wide blue stake approvals, detection of underground utilities, maintenance of electronic drawing files, utility identification and labeling and data collection to support operations or the engineering unit projects.

  • Conducts and approves all blue stake permitting
  • Assembles data and assists with problem solving in locating plant utilities
  • Utilizes drawing library, system specialists and area leadership in investigation efforts
  • Creates, updates and maintains electronic drawings of utility systems
  • Performs GPS mapping, locating and labeling of plant systems
  • Assists with structural surveys to support site improvement projects
  • Assists with systems projects and development
  • Performs other duties as required


Job Scope

  • Works on mostly routine tasks and usually implements solution through individual effort.
  • Collaborates within the department or work group and has limited interaction with external colleagues.
  • Works under direct supervision and is expected to set objectives, priorities and timelines that typically only impact individual work.
  • Has no budget responsibility.
  • Does not mange people, function, project or programs.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • One (1) year experience in engineering, surveying or technical area relevant to the assignment
  • Knowledge of specialized equipment, methods and techniques appropriate to assignment, including AutoCAD and GPS mapping techniques
  • Ability to develop and maintain use of skills relevant to the assignment
  • Knowledge of applicable computer hardware and software
  • Ability to read engineered drawings or blue prints
  • Knowledge of principle and practices of blue stake
  • Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing


Preferred

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Survey experience
  • Locating experience
  • Microsoft Suite experience
  • Any computer drafting program experience


Criteria/Conditions

  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Work is in a mine or smelter plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature, moving mechanical parts and large mine equipment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to thirty (30) pounds during the course of the workday
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, mine or smelter plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed respirator, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
  • Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing
