Purpose of the Position:

The Chief Mining Engineer, through the mine engineering department, and consultants as required, will be responsible for mine designs, deriving mine reserves, scheduling mine production, evaluating mining scenarios, equipment selection and other activities related to mine design and reserve calculations. He/she may be required work with and direct consultants to advance projects according to Company objectives. Incumbent will drive activities to determine the viability of alternatives and apply best practices in mine design to achieve sustainable safe low-cost mining operations. Key internal interfaces will be project managers, geologists, survey, project engineers, metallurgists, project controls personnel and financial analysts. The Chief Mining Engineer will ensure that the mine production team has the engineering and ventilation support to successful achieve the business plan on a shift by shift, daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

Accountability:

The Chief Engineer of the company, reports to the Tech Services Manager on all aspects of administrative and technical operations.

•Departmental administration and supervision - supervise and manage mine engineering and survey departments.

•Responsible for direct and in-direct supervision of mining consultants and contractors.

•Assist, execute and manage operations management.

•Ventilation, Dewatering and Rock mechanics.

•Perform engineering project work.

•Mine Surveying and Quality Control.

Knowledge:

•An in-depth knowledge of mining methods, design, planning, costing, development/ construction/production, and operations

•An in-depth knowledge of financial, planning and project management reporting

•An in-depth knowledge and understanding of MSHA mine safety legislation and regulations

•An in-depth understanding of underground mining practices, policies, procedures, and standards

•An in-depth knowledge with mine modeling; simulation programs preferred

•An in-depth knowledge in rock mechanics studies, mine design and mine develop planning

•An in-depth understanding in project management, mine haulage systems, etc.

•An in-depth understanding of operations management including cash flow and budgeting.

•A comprehensive understanding of mine-site operations

•High level project management and supervisory skills

•Knowledge of computer programs including standard office programs

Qualifications:

The Chief Engineer, of the company, must possess a University Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent with a minimum of 15 years' experience in project/senior engineering roles, metal/non-metal, and 10 years of supervisory experience.
