Principal Water Steward - Sustainability (Perth) - FFI Corporate

Work Location: Perth

Roster: Monday to Friday

The Principal Water Steward will be FFIs Subject Matter Expert providing advice on our global portfolio of projects and corporate direction. You will assist the Environmental Manager to set FFIs corporate standards and guidance relating to water stewardship and provide specialist technical advice on project specific issues in Australia and internationally.

As a Water Steward, you will assist FFI to understand our water use, catchment context and shared risk in terms of water governance, water balance, water quality and important water-related areas. You will assist FFI to engage in meaningful actions that benefit biodiversity and ecosystem services for communities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assist in the development of policies, standards and guidelines for the responsible use of water.
  • Ensure projects are aligned with international best practice requirements and standards.
  • Quantify water impacts in project planning and for decision-making.
  • Engage with stakeholders, suppliers and other organizations interested in water stewardship in locations where we operate, or source materials from.
  • Promote water efficiency; minimizing water loss; prevent pollution and promote water recycling and responsible wastewater disposal.
  • Setting context-based water targets that recognize individual watersheds as system boundaries, and to regularly communicate progress against these targets.
  • Complying with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications and skills required

  • A tertiary degree in environmental science, hydrology, sustainability or equivalent (post graduate qualifications will be highly regarded).
  • Significant experience in delivering environmental and water related advice for complex large-scale projects across an international portfolio.
  • Experience developing water stewardship strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply skills and knowledge to a range of environments.
  • Experience with international best practice guidelines, including IFC performance standards.
  • Advanced report writing and research skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience in building and maintaining relationships with regulators and other stakeholders.
  • Experience with renewable energy projects.
  • Proficiency in GIS and Mapping.
