Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About The Role

Position Reports To: Chief Engineer

Position Overview

The role of the Underground Superintendent is to oversee the safe and efficient engineering and geological work. Carry out the strategic plan of the mining operation ensuring that objectives are consistent with the overall business plan. Assist the management team in developing the overall strategy for the mine.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the underground operation assuring adherence to company practices
  • Lead and demonstrate site safety culture.
  • Identify hazards and deficiencies in the workplace and provide corrective actions and improvement ideas.
  • Assure the development and production work is being executed correctly as designed.
  • Address all concerns on performance and safety
  • Assure New Gold staff are informed of deficiencies that are in their control and assure the deficiencies are corrected
  • Managing and overseeing all material movement from surface to underground
  • Assisting with scheduling all work
  • Reviewing scopes of work and project drawings, developing methodologies and job step procedures for all work with assistance from Supervisors, Superintendents and Project Manager
  • Participate in the development of mining operations practices, policies and procedures with accountability for costs, productivity, safety, environmental compliance and employee morale.
  • Liaise with surface operations to assure no unplanned interactions with surface equipment
  • Liaise with surface operation to schedule movement of ore and waste surface stockpiles as required for the underground production.
  • Schedule maintenance of surface facilities with appropriate site maintenance groups


Qualifications
  • 15+years’ experience in mining industry
  • Technical Degree in Mine Engineering or relevant discipline considered an asset
  • Previous experience overseeing work of contractors in underground work
  • Ontario Common Core programs for underground and supervisors
  • Requires a total awareness of and commitment to health, safety, and the environment in the workplace.
  • Strong working computer skills
  • Strong practical experience in reading and understanding drive prints and other engineered drawings and maps
  • Practical understanding of geotechnical hazards and identification in the underground
  • Practical experience in underground mining methods
