Position: Fire Engineer

Introduction

Hatch is expanding within the field of Fire Engineering serving our clients with special services and integrated solutions. Hatch is currently recruiting experienced Fire Engineering Practitioners to work with the Fire Risk Group based in South Africa. We are interested in Fire Engineers across the specialty spectrum. Although beneficial, and certainly advantageous, to have most or all of the attributes and expertise listed below, all applications will be assessed individually as most of the listed specialist areas below is a specialist field in it self.

Qualifications

• A degree in civil/mechanical/chemical/electrical engineering or recognized equivalent is required
• Studies in fire sciences can be credited in lieu of experience.

Experience

Experience, which should include all or some of the following:

• Fire and building code consulting,
• Fire/explosion analysis and modeling,
• Fire system design:
  • Sprinklers systems
  • Foam systems
  • Deluge system
  • Fire water pumpstations
  • Fire water reticulation sizing
  • Fire water hydrant placing
  • Clean agent fire suppression systems
• Passive fire protection
• Fire detection systems
• Consultation and fire risk assessments
• Special risks
• Rational fire designs and assessments
• CFD modeling
• Smoke ventilation
• Commissioning of the above is advantageous.
• Have experience in managing fire engineering teams

Knowledge requirements:

• Knowledge in fire suppression systems
• Knowledge in detection and alarm systems
• Knowledge in passive fire protection
• Knowledge in the application of NFPA, EN, FM, UL, ASIB, SANS etc
• Rational designs and good engineering practice
• Be able to perform conditions assessments and code compliance reviews

Responsibilities

The following responsibilities will be allocated against the years of experience:

• Must be able to work autonomously
• Provide input to the project team across all affected disciplines
• Deliver high quality technical documents
• Manage the entire fire engineering design process
• Perform site visits
• Mentoring of younger professionals
