About the role

Downer's Surfacing division is highly respected and has a great track record for delivering excellence. We have an exciting opportunity for a Surfacing Foreperson or Supervisor to join our high-preforming and rapidly growing team in Nelson.

This is a key leadership role where you will be involved in the planning, scheduling, directing, and controlling of activities and operations for the chip sealing crews. You will ensure that works are completed to the satisfaction of our customers and that all our targets are met. Day to day you will:

• Foster and build strong relationships with key stakeholders
• Provide mentoring and training to the crews
• Lead by example and drive a strong health and safety culture
• Successfully plan projects and resource programmes of work to ensure your team can deliver work efficiently and effectively
• Organise, direct, and control all activities and operations of crew, to ensure that work is completed on time, on budget, and with a high level of quality

You will be a part of a team that designs, builds, and maintains 25,000kms worth of roads in Aotearoa New Zealand. With over 150 years of projects and knowledge under our belts, our methods are innovative, and our vision is future focused (just like your career once you join us). About you

As an experienced Surfacing professional, you will also bring with you the following skills and experience:

• Strong knowledge of Surfacing specifications and procedures
• Experienced in the use of bitumen and emulsions advantageous
• High standard of workmanship
• Excellent communication skills
• Strong safety and quality focus
• Demonstrated leadership behaviours that empower others to do their best and develop their skillset
• Strong planning skills with the ability to problem solve on the fly
