What you will be doing

You will provide specialist support in environmental management, waste management, monitoring, biodiversity and external reporting to the various operational areas and facilities at Newmont Boddington (NBG).

About you
Your Tertiary qualification in Environment (Environmental Engineering/Science Degree, Diploma of Natural Resource Management) together with your strong analytical skills and focus on continuous improvement is important.

You will have a proven track record to interpret monitoring results and technical reports, summarising for monthly presentations and reports. Your experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis as well as your skills in key risk areas, including water, waste, chemical and cyanide management are required for this role. Experience in monitoring, rehabilitation, biological surveys, ISO 14001 will be highly regarded together with sound awareness of the relevant Mining & Environmental legislation.

You will be a proactive and effective communicator, with the commitment to developing effective and positive working relationship with internal and external stakeholders and a resourceful, lateral thinker.

Key Accountabilities will include
  • Providing specialist environmental knowledge to operational departments and business partners across site.
  • Overseeing monitoring programmes on the basis of continuous improvement, compliance, and in line with corporate and site policies and procedures.
  • Analysing monitoring data and reports to determine statutory compliance and identify further actions required.
  • Participating in risk assessments and associated hazard identification and management initiatives.
  • Coordinating key projects associated with minimising environmental, heritage, enterprise and social risks specific to the Boddington Gold Mine.
  • Coordinating specialist studies (e.g. Fauna & Flora, Water abstraction, Air Quality) and predictive models (Air, Noise & vibration etc.) where necessary.
  • Completion and timely submission of compliance reports linked to State and Federal legislation.
  • Facilitating event investigations to ensure that root causes are identified and appropriate corrective actions to address causes are instigated.
  • Facilitation of environmental event investigations and generation of SMART corrective actions. Preparing documentation for incidents reports and tracking the close-out of actions.
  • Completing system and standard specific audits and development of actions where deficiencies have been recognised.
  • Providing mentoring to personnel on site in environmental management through participating in workplace inspections and departmental pre-starts.
  • Undertaking scheduled work place inspections and attending and actively participating in pre-start and monthly safety meetings
  • Provide support to the site Environmental Technicians to ensure the successful execution of the site's substantial monitoring program.
