Position Overview

Kiewit Industrial Engineering (K-IND) is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer in the Lenexa, Kansas office. We are looking for ideal candidates to grow the Kiewit team by helping establish, maintain, and improve company standards and tools while also utilizing these standards and tools to contribute to project success. Candidates shall have a minimum of 10 years of experience and shall be capable of applying piping design and modeling principles and procedures while performing basic engineering drafting and modeling work. Candidates must be capable of utilizing a computer aided design program (AutoCAD, Microstation, Inventor, and/or Solidworks) and have a basic knowledge of the latest computer operating systems. Candidates shall be familiar with current drafting and modeling software and exhibit flexibility in work assignments while maintaining a growth mindset and continuing to develop in their technical and professional career.

Our rapidly growing Industrial Engineering team, which includes process, mechanical, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Mineral Processing, Renewable Fuels, Pulp and Paper, Steel & Aluminum, Industrial Buildings, and Industrial Energy, Water and Utilities.

This position is based in Lenexa, KS.

Responsibilities

  • Design of piping systems and generate isometric drawings for systems typical for food and beverage, bulk solids material handling, and other industrial facilities including, but not limited to, process steam, process water, drains, and general plant/facility water, compressed air, and gas systems.
  • Design material handling systems and generate isometric and detail drawings for systems typical for food and beverage, bulk solids material handling, and other industrial facilities including, but not limited to, pneumatic conveying, chutework, and ductwork.
  • Perform early project design work related to facility layout and equipment general arrangement.
  • Develop and check design deliverables in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
  • Provide oversight and coordination of all mechanical designers on a project and working with project manager to meet project budgets and schedules for all mechanical design activities.
  • Navigate 3D models and check for interferences and constructability.
  • Support the construction team including representing the design team on-site, answering RFI's, providing creative design solutions, etc.
  • Complete miscellaneous tasks to support project or department development.
  • Coordinate with other design partners (both internal and external) including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers assigned to the project or task and review work progress and results.
  • Develop schedules, work assignments, and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion.
  • Train, mentor, and advise peers and support staff on proper application of industry standards and best practices.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Associates degree in Computer Aided Design and Drafting Technology or related field.
  • Experience with design software such as SmartPlant, AutoCAD, Microstation, Inventor, or Solidworks.
  • At least 10 years of industry related design experience.
  • Preferred experience with SmartPlant 3D.
  • Proficient in basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
