Job description:
First Quantum Minerals is one of the world's biggest mining companies, employing over 20,000 people.
Ravensthorpe Nickel Operation is our flagship operation in Australia. Located on the beautiful south coast of Western Australia, we are just a short commute from the coastal community of Hopetoun. As a major nickel producer and exporter, we aim to ship up to 30,000 tonnes of nickel concentrate each year via Esperance Port.
Working an 8:6 roster and reporting to the crushing maintenance supervisor, this role will be based in the crushing area of the Beneficiation Circuit and will be responsible for providing the highest quality services, preformed within a timely manner to maximise plant operation.
Key Accountabilities
  • Perform all plant maintenance tasks in a safe, timely and to a high quality and preventing any rework
  • Be a self-starter and able to work with both autonomously and as part of a team
  • Demonstrate a commitment to work place safety and the safety of your co-workers
  • Be accurate, methodical, practical and safety-conscious when installing and maintaining mechanical equipment.
  • Assist new employees in proper work procedures and practices. Ensure that you conduct yourself with the utmost respect for the company and all fellow employees at all times.
  • Compliance to work order attachments and documents such as JHA's, CSRA's, SWI's, etc. This includes the updating of any of these documents to ensure they are kept relevant and reflect best practices
  • Ensure compliance with Safety and Environmental Management systems, policies and procedures along with ensuring that all risks have been identified, managed and safe working environment is maintained
  • Full compliance to mandatory PPE requirements in all areas of the plant.
  • A clear understanding of preventative maintenance, strong communication skills and a flexible "can do" work ethic.
  • Ensure good housekeeping practices are maintained by cleaning up after every task and not leaving any hazards within the work place
  • Have the ability to diagnose faults with equipment through observation and deduction.
  • Coordinate with departmental and team members, as well as process departmental members.
  • Have the ability to safely operate a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Compliance to completion of all pre start checks on mobile equipment/vehicle's, welders, oxy and acetylene equipment, lifting equipment, electrical equipment, and overhead cranes. This includes the correct documentation to be filled in and delivered to the required location.
  • Assist in the proactive identification of repair and maintenance works required
  • Ensure that all completed work orders are closed out with accurate time confirmations
  • Be able to stand for sustained periods of time, work at heights or confined spaces.
  • Perform heavy manual labour safely and effectively.
  • Be able to wear the appropriate PPE for the required task.
  • Ensure that all tools, plant and equipment are kept in good condition, meet required safety standards and are available for use when required.
    Skills, Knowledge and Experience
    • A minimum of 3 year working knowledge and experience of mechanical process production machinery, conveyors, crushers, mills, hydraulics, pneumatics, and automation systems.
    • First Aid Certificate
    • Qualified Trade certificate
    • Hold Current WA driver's license
    • Possess VALID WAH, CSE and
    • EWP, CN (Crane), Rigging and Dogging competencies are desirable but not critical.
    • Ability to read and interpret drawings
    • Basic understanding and ability to use CMMS (Pronto) at Trades Level
    • Understanding of preventive and corrective maintenance
    • Determine how equipment best operates by looking at a diagram or IO&M.
    • A clear understanding of preventive maintenance.
    • Understanding of both production and maintenance strategies for large-scale, continuous operating mineral processing plants.
    • Work proficiently in a variety of tasks.
    • Good verbal and written communication skills.
