12 hour shifts (7 days on / 7 days off / 7 nights on / 7 days off)

Transportation:

Employee bus transportation from Tumbler Ridge (Wolverine & Brule), Chetwynd (Brule & Willow Creek) and Mackenzie (Willow Creek)

Primary Purpose

The Excavator Operator will be responsible for providing support to mine operations in an active open pit coal mine.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate excavators to efficiently clean and move coal, load trucks and perform other tasks, as required.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, bulldozers, loaders and graders to excavate, move, load and grade earth, rock, gravel or other materials during construction and related activities.
  • Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner, perform pre-trip checks and complete FLHA's on a regular basis
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum of 2+ years' experience operating excavator safely in an open pit mining or quarry environment is a prerequisite.
  • Recent working experience in similar roles within mining industry and experience in hard rock preferred.
  • Experience operating Hitachi EX 870 or EX 850, or Cat 385 or 390 or 6015B or similar equipment. The similarity will be determined by Conuma Coal.
  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Apprenticeship, trade, or vocational diploma /certificate preferred
  • Valid Driver's License

Skills and Abilities
  • First Aid/Mine Rescue Training is considered an asset.
  • Physically fit with the ability to perform physical labor and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Applicants must have completed English up to Grade 10 or CLB 4
  • Willingness to learn.
