We are looking for a Corporate Counsel to join Rio Tinto's Iron Ore Legal team in supporting Rio Tinto's Pilbara Operations.

Reporting to the Chief Counsel - Pilbara Operations, you will;
  • Deliver high quality, independent and timely legal advice and support to Rio Tinto Iron Ore across a wide variety of corporate, commercial and operational matters
  • Assume a leading role in advising and supporting all Western Australia operations and management across work health and safety initiatives and matters, from policy and governance through to incident response, management and reporting
  • Supporting tenure and land access arrangements, including proceedings before the Wardens Court
  • Advising and supporting a broad range of employment and insurance related matters
  • Coordinate and engage with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders including regulators
  • Oversee cost effective management of external counsel
  • Support internal reporting as well as governance and compliance functions and frameworks.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • At least 10 years' experience as a practicing lawyer, preferably with some expertise in work health and safety, and incident management
  • Experience with managing litigation and supporting insurance related matters
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Tertiary qualification in Bachelor of Law or equivalent and must hold a current legal practicing certificate
