About the role

We are looking for Engineer(s) - Reliability to join the Rio Tinto Kennecott Asset Management team.

Reliability Engineers at Rio Tinto Kennecott support business goals by facilitating the identification and management of asset reliability risks that could adversely affect plant or business operations. The Reliability Engineer role is fundamental to optimizing the balance of asset risk, cost and performance through the deliberate application of root cause analysis, defect elimination, risk analysis and tactics development methodologies or techniques.

This role is a great opportunity to join a truly global mining organization that places a high priority on technology and innovation while continuing to develop your Reliability Engineering skill set. Reporting to a Manager - Reliability, you will proactively:
  • Facilitate the site Defect Elimination (DE) program and manage DE initiatives
  • Use Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodology to identify failure causes and develop solutions
  • Develop and continuously improve maintenance tactics using Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Planned Maintenance Optimization (PMO) for both new and existing assets respectively
  • Conduct reliability studies and reliability block modeling
  • Perform Life Cycle Cost Analysis on new and existing assets
  • Interrogate and analyze the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) database for equipment and work order data
  • Build and monitor/analyze trends in PI ProcessBook data historian
  • Monitor, study and improve quality of various data
  • Monitor, quantify and communicate the value generated by improvement projects
  • Generate and apply Pareto Charts to identify bottlenecks and prioritize the allocation of resources for improvements.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field. Related work experience and education will be considered in lieu of a degree
  • 3+ years of experience in reliability and/or field engineering in a maintenance role
  • Detailed knowledge of how to apply Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Planned Maintenance Optimization (PMO)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Root Cause Analysis techniques
  • Superior knowledge of fixed assets, materials of construction, chemical compatibility, and creation of standards
  • Experience with CMMS (SAP)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience with Project Management

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Experience facilitating Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
  • A Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) or Certified Reliability Leader (CRL) certification
  • Certification in any of the PdM technologies such as thermography, oil analysis, ultrasonic emission, vibration analysis, non-destructive testing etc
  • Experience using and integrating predictive and preventive maintenance tools, technologies, and practices
  • Experience developing maintenance tactics

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903, and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
