About the role

We are currently looking for a Reliability Engineer to join our Dampier Salt Limited (DSL) Engineering and Reliability team. As an integral member of the team, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and governance to site, project, and central teams, as well as delivering our Defect Elimination process to ensure that any associated risk is being appropriately managed for mobile equipment and fixed plant assets.

This role is a great opportunity to improve the reliability and performance of mobile equipment and fixed plant assets throughout Dampier Salt Operations and, through advanced analysis skills and the development of maintenance tactics, ensure the safety of personnel is preserved and the production risk minimised. You will develop maintenance strategies and apply your specialised problem-solving skills and engineering expertise to ensure the safe and cost-effective performance of DSL assets.

As part of the wider Rio Tinto Iron Ore operations, Dampier Salt has three operations located at Dampier, Port Hedland and Lake MacLeod and is headquartered in Perth, Western Australia. Through a sustainable process of solar evaporation of sea water, we reliably deliver high quality salt essential for making thousands of products used in everyday life. At our Lake MacLeod operations, we also mine and export gypsum to customers in Australia and Southeast Asia. DSL is the world's largest exporter of seaborne salt, with capacity to produce approximately 10.3 million tonnes every year.

Reporting to the Specialist Reliability Engineer, you will:
  • Lead Defect Elimination (DE) projects & investigations into asset failures and performance through root cause analysis for mobile and fixed plant assets across DSL Operations.
  • Analyse asset performance and health data to identify and deliver asset performance and reliability improvement initiatives through Asset Management Framework
  • Drive cost and risk reduction while balancing asset life cycle strategies and performance in alignment with DSL Engineering standards.
  • Analyse primary/secondary maintenance tasks (PM01/PM02) to improve asset reliability & cost
  • Define asset management technical requirements for new assets
  • Review new asset operational readiness tactics, maintenance plans and inventory requirements
  • Provide technical expertise in the discipline of mechanical engineering to support site maintenance teams as well as the Project Delivery team throughout project cycles; and
  • Review and maintain mechanical discipline Company Standard Specifications.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • A tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years' experience working in the field of Mechanical Engineering and Reliability
  • Experience in the design, operation, maintenance and reliability of mobile equipment and fixed plant assets within a mining or industrial environment
  • Expertise in reliability concepts
  • Advanced RCA and problem-solving techniques
  • Knowledge of data analysis tools
  • Knowledge of work management process
  • Excellent communication skills and effective stakeholder management
  • A proactive approach with a commitment in driving a safe and inclusive team culture
  • C Class driver's licence

Where you will be working

This position will be based in Perth at our Central Park office, working Monday to Friday. This role will include some site travel to our three Dampier Salt Operations, but with the flexibility to work around your own personal & family priorities.
