About the role

We are looking for an Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical) - Track Machines and Ancillary assets to be part of the Regional Rolling Stock Maintenance Engineering Team at Dampier. The primary function of this role is to improve asset maintainability and delivery of maintenance improvement and defect elimination projects on track machines and ancillary assets that are currently used to maintain our 1700km rail network. Track machines and ancillary assets include, but not limited to mobile flash butt welders, mainline/switch tampers, regulators, pettibones, bobcats, railkings, ballast cleaner, ballast wagons.

This opportunity is being offered on a 5:2 / 4:3 roster, residentially based in the coastal town of Karratha, with a short drive to site or FIFO from Perth.

This role is a great opportunity for a technical expert in mechanical maintenance practice for Track machine and ancillary assets to join our diverse and technical team. Reporting to the Senior Engineer, you will be:
  • Responsible for Track machine & Ancillary Assets mechanical maintenance practices - Identify & prioritise defects, facilitate / participate in root cause analysis. Improve assets MTBF and MTTR
  • Provide technical support to the maintenance team to resolve asset breakdowns. Develop scope of work, methodology and ensure compliance to relevant standards for short term projects
  • Engagement of external vendors where needed for fault finding and support with short & long term projects
  • Investigate faults recorded in daily maintenance shifts logs and SAP notification/workorders. Be the champion and drive better data entry
  • Be the champion and drive Management of Change (MOC) process for changes implemented on assets
  • Work closely with operation / maintenance superintendents, supervisors and maintainers to obtain the necessary support to implement good defect elimination culture at all levels
  • Support the maintenance team with asset management and work management skills

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Bachelor of Engineering - Mechanical or Mechatronics
  • Understanding rail safe operating procedures
  • Relevant engineering experience in heavy haul rail environment, railway maintenance machineries, heavy mobile equipments, maintenance practices
  • Strong facilitation, stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Good working knowledge about different SAP tranasactions
  • Be a motivated 'Change agent' and drive better Work management and Defect Elimination Culture
  • Fault finding and problem-solving techniques
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA) facilitation skills
  • Understanding of project management principles
  • Understanding of the data analytical tools: Power BI, Spotfire, Excel and APM
  • C Class Driving Licence
