About the role

We are looking for a Supervisor Logistics Operations based in Singapore. The supervisor is fundamental to our organization and is a peer member of the Logistics leadership team, responsible for connecting our business to our customers.

This role is a great opportunity for an experienced professional to ensure that the requirements of the business are met through efficient and optimized logistics management from Rio Tinto's Singapore commercial centre.

This role is a great opportunity to lead and supervise the Logistics Operations Team that is the direct link between the customer and internal stakeholders. Responsible for managing the Logistics Operations Team effectively, you will be responsible for directing and managing the efficient and effective operational and administrational execution of freight and logistics activities to meet customer requirements and achieve operational performance and safety targets by:

  • Create a Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) culture within Rio Tinto Logistics ensuring all activities comply with Rio Tinto standards and that product shipments are made in a safe and secure manner
  • Engage suppliers on HSE related issues to ensure compliance to contract management standards and performance expectations
  • Supervise, manage, develop and mentor team of Logistics Operations Officers responsible for movements involving transportation, warehousing and material flows
  • Coordinate and optimise shipments with suppliers using negotiated (or better) rates and terms
  • Encourage & challenge team to identify freight opportunities to reduce costs and improve profitability and managing excess logistics costs to target
  • Ensure timely and accurate issuance of shipping instructions and management of formalities for domestic, import and export shipments
  • Consolidate regular and relevant feedback to internal stakeholders to enhance service delivery and business performance
  • Key escalation point for customer service to ensure shipments are despatched efficiently and meet customer expectations
  • Key escalation point for resolution of operational issues raised by the Business Units or providers
  • Assist team members to interpret supplier contracts across different trade lanes to ensure optimised shipments
  • Collaborate with sourcing and strategy team on vendors sourcing, negotiation, contract and performance management liaising with internal/external stakeholders across different geographical locations
  • Monitor invoice issuance and supplier payments to ensure adherence to contractual terms and Rio Tinto payment policies
  • Provide guidance to performance improvement group to engage on formulation and maintenance of relevant metrics, performance tracking and initiatives
  • Provide operational guidance to sourcing and strategy team on relevant contract items and support needs
  • Perform super-user role for connected planning and optimization systems

About you
  • Experience in logistics, freight forwarding or supply chain roles (minimum 5 years preferred)
  • Bachelors level qualification in Logistics or similar
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Analytical, process improvement and basic financial skills to identify key value drivers for business, streamline process and eliminate non-value added tasks
  • Ability to drive adoption and efficient use of digital solutions to manage logistics flows
  • Proficient in Excel, Power BI, SAP experience preferred
