About the role

All progress begins with pioneers. At Rio Tinto, it begins with you.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Production Engineers to join our dynamic mining operations teams within Rio Tinto Iron Ore in the Pilbara, Western Australia. With cutting edge technology at your fingertips and support of the brightest minds in the industry you will develop, lead and manage productivity and cost improvement initiatives for the site, while driving the implementation of the mine plan.

These roles will provide you with the opportunity to further your knowledge of all functions within the operations space and gain exposure to the mine operations leadership team. If you are willing to think outside of the box, challenge the status quo and drive continuous change, then this is the perfect role for you!

Reporting to the Senior Production Engineer, you will:
  • Lead business improvement projects for the mine operations team with a specific focus on safety, productivity and asset utilisation
  • Identify and implement autonomous haulage optimisation opportunities
  • Engage with key internal partners across mine production, mining technical services, dewatering, fixed plant and mobile equipment maintenance to deliver required business outcomes
  • Utilise accurate data analysis to drive cost reductions and efficiencies
  • Promote a culture of safety and respect, and provide input into critical risk management and incident investigation processes
  • Coordinate and support productivity initiatives within the mine operations team and establishing best practice
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and technical support to the mine planning engineers and operations teams to ensure optimisation of the mine plan
  • Ability to analyse and identify opportunities within the business to maximise value by working alongside mine operational and maintenance teams
  • Demonstrate the Rio Tinto values of courage, care and curiosity

What you'll bring

You will have tertiary qualifications in mining engineering and/or demonstrated experience in mine production, or mine planning roles within a large open pit mining environment. You will be someone who thrives on a challenge, can think outside of the box and has a good understanding of the fundamental concepts that underpin value in the mining industry. Your exceptional relationship building skills coupled with your ability to engage and collaborate effectively with a diverse range of business partners will also ensure your success in this role.

A manual 'C' class driver's licence and a WA Unrestricted Quarry Manager's Certificate or the ability to obtain one will be required. Prior experience with autonomous haulage systems will also be advantageous. A high level of computer literacy - experience with Vulcan, Excel, Power Query, Power Bi (or other data visualisation software) will be highly regarded.
