About the role

We are looking for a Senior Advisor/Engineer - Control Systems and Automation to provide engineering and technical support to the operations and maintenance teams on an as needed basis. The team also provides calibration and predictive maintenance services to the maintenance/operations areas through the Instrumentation and Vibration crews. The Control Systems Engineer is an area-assigned role responsible for providing engineering services while considering safety, quality, cost, and production.

Reporting to the superintendent control systems you will:
  • Engineer, plan, manage, and execute assigned projects by engaging key stakeholders, prioritizing tasks, and supporting the team to achieve goals.
  • Prioritize and assign tasks to consultants as needed to meet project milestones and business objectives.
  • Ensure compliance to IOC's safety standards including risk assessments, JHA's, safety tours, Take Five's, and Critical Risk Management. Demonstrate leadership in IOC's change management process to ensure that all changes are accurately documented and carried out safely.
  • Provide mentorship to engineers-in-training, technologists, and/or work term students.
  • Develop and execute professional development plans required to meet business needs and professional requirements (leadership, operational and/or maintenance competencies, etc.)
  • Improving and upgrading existing control systems assets (PLC, DCS, VFD, etc.) and applying complex problem-solving techniques
  • Commissioning and ramp up of plant equipment and systems, including approving commissioning plans, providing troubleshooting support, and approving pre-acceptance documents
  • Providing troubleshooting support and services to the operating areas as required to return equipment to service in a safe and efficient manner

What you will need for this role

To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • University degree in Automation or Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Project Management ability
  • Minimum 10-15 years relevant experience in Control Systems (preferably Rockwell, Schneider, and Foxboro)
