YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:

Reporting to the Corporate Director of Communications and Government Relations, the Director, Government Relations is part of the Communication and Public Affairs team and collaborate with all members of the division. The incumbent will design, direct, and execute an effective strategic government relations program to advance the Company's business objectives and reputation and to accompany the realization of specific projects. This will involve developing and continually leveraging strong networks of individuals or groups working on specific issues in Municipal, Provincial, Territorial, and Federal governments in Canada.
  • Work closely with the business to identify, understand and manage Canadian Government Relations-related issues and regulatory matters in alignment with the Company's strategic priorities;
  • Maintain a clear understanding of business objectives and priorities through active involvement with key management to assure appropriate linkage of business strategies and governmental issues;
  • Consolidate Canadian (Municipal, Provincial/Territorial, Federal) government issues and matters into a comprehensive government outreach strategy and lead the execution of that strategy;
  • Develop, coordinate, and maintain relationships and contacts with Canadian (municipal, provincial/territorial, federal) government regulatory agencies, government departments, governmental leaders to enhance favorable governmental relationships and reputation for the Company;
  • Identify key decision-makers and influencers within government and promote corporate positions with those audiences both in person, virtually and in writing;
  • Produce targeted supporting materials such as correspondence, briefing notes, submissions, factsheet, and presentations in support of issues, projects or to enhance Company's reputation;
  • Draft and coordinate the approval of correspondence, presentations, and formal policy submissions to Municipal, Provincial/Territorial and Federal government officials (elected and non-elected);
  • Conduct both internal and external communications to ensure message continuity;
  • Coordinate meetings with Municipal, Provincial/Territorial, Federal government officials;
  • Make presentations to government officials and coordinate/host site tours;
  • Monitor emerging Canadian (Municipal, Provincial/Territorial, Federal) public policy, legislative, regulatory, and political issues that could impact the organization and work with appropriate internal and external stakeholders to proactively develop or recommend actions;
  • Participate in committees and working groups focused on a variety of critical policy priorities related to the Company's objectives and area of interest;
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a corporate government relations database containing all current and relevant issues and contacts;
  • Runs reports;
  • Advance special projects as required.


WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

The key to this role is the ability to consolidate the Company's needs from various parts of the business into a coherent government relations program and, as the company's representative, to advocate its interests effectively and thoughtfully. Of equal importance is the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that the Company's positions are clear, consistent, and well-integrated across the enterprise.
  • University degree and/or other post-secondary education in Political Science, Public Affairs, Communications, or equivalent. A combination of relevant education and experience may also be accepted;
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities normally acquired through at least 7 to 10 years of significant experience working with government agencies and/or departments;
  • Extensive understanding of Canada, Nunavut, Ontario and Quebec's political and policy development processes, and the rules and procedures in effect (particularly the permitting processes and the various government funding mechanisms);
  • High level of interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and partnerships with a variety of stakeholders;
  • Ability to simplify an issue and coordinate the efforts of a number of different parties toward a common goal;
  • Experience presenting complex issues and opportunities to high-level officials and third-party partners;
  • Maturity, sound judgement, diplomacy and the ability to liaise confidently, effectively and positively with internal and government stakeholders;
  • Sense of urgency, agility, transparency, respect and collaboration in a team setting.
  • Political acumen;
  • Demonstrated communication skills (oral, virtual and written);
  • Exceptional writing, public speaking and presentation skills;
  • Outstanding organizational and project management skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and work under tight deadlines on multiple initiatives;
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team;
  • Resourcefulness and creative problem-solving skills;
  • Knowledge and/or experience of the mining sector and mining-related issues would be an asset;
  • Bilingualism (English, French) strongly preferred;
  • Ability to travel to regions where Agnico Eagle has operations or offices when required.


This role operates on a standard work week (5/2 schedule, Monday to Friday).
