Position Overview

At Kiewit, one of our guiding principles on every project and in every office is, "Nobody Gets Hurt" and we're currently looking for a Safety Manager who will create, support, and audit our programs which reinforce our commitment to safety.

As a Safety Manager, you will report to the Project Safety Manager. Your primary responsibilities center on the successful implementation and support of the Site Specific Safety Plan in the field. You will assist the Project Safety Manager with the application of the contract, client safety expectations, Corporate Safety Manual, District Standards, and all laws governing the work. You will also verify to ensure that work is being executed as planned, problem-solve with operations and craft, assist with corrective measures, and provide resources to correct and maintain solutions.

Responsibilities

• Manage the company environmental health and safety programs at the project level, driving a safety-oriented approach to work.
• Compile, analyze, and interpret occupational illness and accident statistical data at the project level; recommending process and product safety features that will reduce employee exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards.
• Routinely inspect the underground facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
• Routinely monitor the workforce for unsafe behaviors and coach employees on the correct behaviors when observed.
• Develop environmental health and safety training materials to include manuals, brochures, PowerPoint presentations etc.
• Conduct incident investigations by interviewing witnesses, compiling witness statements, photographs, measurements and assessed damages to determine root causes. Subsequently formulating corrective action deliverables to prevent repeat occurrences.
• Develop a paperwork management system to track safety training records to track all training initiatives conducted personally or by outside consultants/vendors.
• Coordinate and present safety training to support client requirements including new hire orientation, fall protection, confined space, lockout/tagout and rigging inspections.
• Interface with Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA)

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field is preferred.
• Ability to work in highly specific work environment (Surface Mines) and around related equipment.
• The physical ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environmental conditions and move objects up to 50 pounds.
• Requires relocation to Soda Springs, ID
• 5 years surface mining experience with MSHA Experience
• MSHA Training Card (Blue Card) preferred
