POSITION OVERVIEW

Safely maintain, install, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation and control equipment throughout a copper ore concentrating facility. The Senior Instrument Technician is responsible for the instrument maintenance program in their assigned area, including preventive and corrective maintenance, work scheduling, spare parts management, and projects. These duties will be accomplished with little or no supervision and in a manner consistent with plant production, cost, quality, safety, and environmental goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Day to day responsibilities and expectations
  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, repair, and replacement of Process Control Systems (DCS), control and instrument loops, field instrumentation, chemical analysis systems, communication network systems, pumping/storage distribution systems, and HMI computer workstations in accordance with industry standards.
  • Updates databases with information regarding assigned work orders, equipment calibration, repair and parts inventory and orders parts
  • Reviews prints for conformity to ASARCO standards and accepted industry standards in instrumentation principals, practices, procedures, and terminology.
  • Evaluates and specifies instrumentation for installation in the process.
  • Supports other departments as well as outside contractors, consultants, and regulatory agencies in the verification and third-party certification of instrument data.
  • Utilize requisitioning using computerized Warehouse system.
  • Inspect environmental monitoring systems for proper operation.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Thorough knowledge of measurement and control instrumentation equipment used in industrial process control including temperature, level, pressure, flow, density, particle size, Ph/ORP, conductivity, and material weight instruments.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding instrument loop diagrams, instrument data/spec sheets, one-line power and PID diagrams.
  • Thorough knowledge of repair, testing and calibration of electrical, pneumatic, and electro-hydraulic control valves.
  • Dead-weight bench testing and calibration of pressure instruments. (To include low pressure instruments).
  • Low voltage control systems.
  • High level of knowledge of instrumentation systems, motor controls, process evaluation and subsequent PID loop tuning.
  • Proficient in the safe use of a variety of test equipment used for the proper calibration, setup, and diagnostics of process instrumentation equipment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of computerized control systems such as distributed control (DCS) and/or programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and maintenance records.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts and Holidays (24/7/365 operation)

ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY
  • The job requires training or instruction in Environmental Awareness.
  • This job requires training or instruction in Safety & Health awareness including completion of the appropriate OSHA/MSHA training.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Two (2) years of College, Technical School or Certified Apprenticeship + Two (2) years related work experience.

  • Six (6) years of related work experience
  • High school diploma or GED certificate
