Job Description:

Summary:

Barr is seeking a civil designer to join its Jefferson City, Missouri, team and undertake challenging and progressive work on projects involving data collection, planning, and problem solving in the civil engineering field. The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams, providing computer-aided drafting expertise using AutoCAD on a Windows platform, with an emphasis on Civil 3D. Typical duties consist of working with engineers to create, update, and revise drawings of civil, mechanical, electrical, or structural systems.

Project responsibilities include developing and managing project CAD file structure, basefiles, planimetrics, design surfaces and pipe drafting networks, and construction drawing and renderings as well as determining quantities for cost estimating and report preparation. Additional responsibilities may include construction observation, surveying, and monitoring. The work may involve out-of-town assignments.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Two-year technical certificate or experience/coursework directly related to the job responsibilities described above
  • Proficiency using current versions of AutoCAD and Civil 3D or other CADD-based civil design software
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients
  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with project team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiative
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience working on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above
  • Experience in the consulting industry
  • Familiarity with software packages including additional drafting packages such as Revit, MicroStation, Geopak, ArcGIS, Excel, and word processing software
  • Familiarity with work in an industrial environment and basic knowledge of various industrial disciplines and industrial construction
