About this role

What will you be responsible for?
The Director of Global Trade Compliance & Third Party Due Diligence & Monitoring (Director) will be based at the Denver HQ or an agreed upon Newmont facility, will report directly to the Chief Integrity & Compliance Officer in the Business Integrity & Compliance (BI&C) team, and will supervise both the Company's Global Trade Compliance program (both export and import compliance) and the enterprise wide third party due diligence and monitoring program. The Director will have 2-3 direct reports (TBD) as well as 10+ regionally-based and functional indirect reports. The Director will be responsible for first assessing and then designing/re-designing, rolling out and leading all aspects of strategic deployment of and tactical execution of both the global trade compliance and third party due diligence and monitoring program enhancements to sustain and further improve the effectiveness of the Company's global trade compliance and third party due diligence and monitoring activities. The Director will also work closely with his/her peers on other BI&C cross-functional matters as needed.

In this role you will

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:
  • Provide strategic leadership and risk-based direction in assessing, sustaining, and enhancing the effectiveness of the Company's global trade compliance program (export and import compliance activities). 20%
  • Provide strategic leadership and risk-based direction in assessing, sustaining, improving, rolling-out and implementing the Company's enterprise-wide enhanced third party due diligence and monitoring program. 30%
  • Accountable for supervising program assessments including initial diagnosis, continuous monitoring and/or remote data analysis protocols, driving associated action plans to completion and fostering the program (for both global trade compliance and third party due diligence and monitoring) throughout the organization. 10%
  • Oversee development and enhancement of a systematic end-to-end approach to classifying the Company's products and related software, technologies, and services (both ECCN and HTS classifications). Understand and stay on top of Company's existing and future technologies/products to ensure issues are proactively addressed. Handle export license applications and export classification process. 5%
  • Lead engagements with vendors that support critical trade compliance and third party due diligence and monitoring processes such as denied party screening, politically exposed parties, adverse news media, enhanced due diligence engagements and potential match adjudication and end use/user questionnaire processes. Collaborate to ensure end-to-end transparency of new/added/improved processes. 10%
  • Develop a communication strategy to increase transparency of the function within the Company and improve Company employees' understanding/awareness of global trade compliance and third party due diligence and monitoring issues, including developing function-based, risk-based trade compliance and third party due diligence and monitoring training and communications. 10%
  • Develop strong business partner relationships, including collaborating closely with global business and functional leaders such as Supply Chain, Finance/Accounting, Tax, Exploration, S&ER, Technical Services, etc.), as well as with Legal and BI&C professionals. 5%
  • Work with government regulators worldwide to resolve regulatory audits and inquiries, enhance relationships and promote helpful regulatory change. 5%
  • Be responsible for the establishment, implementation, and monitoring of appropriate metrics, data analytics and compliance reports against which the Company can measure the effectiveness and continuous improvement of its global trade compliance and third party due diligence and monitoring program. 5%

Your training, skills, & experience checklist

Here is what we would need to see from you!
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant area.
  • Law degree and active license to practice law preferred but not required.
  • 15+ years of experience in global trade and anti-corruption compliance specifically including third party due diligence and monitoring programs with an in-depth understanding of applicable global export controls, economic sanctions, anti-boycott import and anti-corruption laws and regulations as well as extensive experience with global trade and third party due diligence and monitoring programs, frameworks, and standard methodologies at multiple international companies.
  • Mining, extractive, construction, utilities or other heavy shown experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and support multi-jurisdictional trade compliance and third party investigations (including scoping, auditing, interviewing, etc.) and government inquiries and effectively interact with government regulators.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle discreet and sensitive matters.
  • Experience working in a large, diverse multinational organization.
  • Assertive personality with strong interpersonal skills, cultural competency, and the ability to work as part of a diverse, global, and virtual team.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently in and adapt to fast paced, frequently changing environments (i.e., organizational agility and flexibility) and effective in driving cross-functional projects and organizational change initiatives.
  • Exceptional execution and strong project management experience including the ability to work efficiently and proactively, prioritize and easily re-prioritize issues and workflows, meet demanding deadlines (including outside normal US business hours), and run multi-dimensional projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment and shown ability to influence without control at all levels within the organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - and the ability to present regulatory topics to business audiences.
  • Strong and deep familiarity with data, processes and systems supporting global trade.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office and related products - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and SharePoint
  • Strong compliance systems knowledge and experience - Third Party Due Diligence and Monitoring platforms, Compliance Case Management tools, and other applicable compliance systems and tools.
  • Foreign language proficiency (e.g., Dutch, French, Spanish) desirable.


Working conditions & location

Where you will be located!
The preferredlocation for this position isat our Corporate HQ in Denver but qualified candidates in other US locations are also encouraged to apply as we may consider a remote work option. This positionrequires travel up to 30% to domestic/international locations.

The salary range offered for this role is $ 148,160 to 194,460 . The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate's salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company's performance and their own individual performance. This role also will be eligible for participation in a discretionary long-term incentive program, pursuant to which an employee may receive awards based on their level and individual performance.
