About the Role:
With position across various Rio Tinto Inland sites this role is an exciting entry level opportunity for motivated and proactive individuals to join the Rail Operations team and receive ongoing training and development with clear career development pathways. The primary purpose of this role is to respond to planned and unplanned events relating to AutoHaul trains across the network.
Typical activities may include, but are not limited to:
Recovery of disabled trains; attending to a train at the instruction of train control, asset health, Network Locomotive Drivers or supervisory staff where a train has stopped or requires inspection, and subsequent restarting.
Inspect and, where practicable, field repair of a rolling stock faults (within qualifications)
Assist application and release of handbrakes for trains on the mainline (in addition to any other instructed securing requirements)
Liaise with Asset Health for fault finding and train recovery (within qualifications)
Provide assistance to Network Locomotive Drivers
Transport personnel as required by light vehicle.
Assist with minor maintenance activities to support the safe operation of the rail network
Foster a culture of continuous improvement by maintaining strong relationships with peers to ensure effective performance by sharing information and supporting the team in implementation of relevant initiatives.
In field presence to conduct inspections, monitor and report network condition and action as required. Typical activities may include, but are not limited to:
Maintain the condition of the response depot or hub.
Drive a light vehicle to inspect areas along the designated area of the network.
Conduct roll-by inspections as required.
As the successful candidate, you will possess the following:
- Current "C" class Drivers Licence -Automatic or Provisional Drivers Licence will not be considered
- Sound communication skills
- Strong verbal reasoning, spatial awareness and technical checking skills
- Proven ability to work effectively both as a team member
- Must be able to work at a high standard autonomously
- Understanding of safety and environmental principles governing the work environment
