Job Description:

Summary:

Barr is seeking an engineer with experience working on projects related to water resources/civil engineering. Project work may include analyses related to stormwater planning, drainage improvements, and flood control, primarily in urban settings; hydraulic analysis and design related to stormwater infrastructure, channels, hydraulic structures, levees, and dams; preparation of technical reports, plans, and specifications. The position also involves working with clients, permitting agencies, and public officials. Responsibilities will also include leading multidisciplinary project teams, interacting with existing and new clients, and growing Barr's brand recognition in the region. The work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments either in the field or in another office.

Barr may consider a remote working arrangement based on candidate qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • 15 years of civil engineering experience with a focus on water resources and civil works projects
  • Project management experience
  • Experience with large-scale, complex water resources project planning
  • Familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling approaches and commonly used software.
  • Experience with proposal development
  • Experience with client management and business development
  • Flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 20+ years of civil engineering experience with a focus on water resources and civil works projects
  • Leadership experience at a program or engineering division level
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage different sources of funding, including grants
  • Experience working with federal agencies, in particular the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
  • Strong technical skills in a broad range of civil engineering topics
  • Construction observation, fieldwork, and surveying experience


NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
