The Role

The purpose of the position is to act as a steward and champion for the Contractor Management Standard, project procedures, processes and governance representing the Greenfield's Exploration team. In conjunction with this, the role will be the interface for all aspects of contractor management with both internal and external stakeholders, adopting a continuous improvement and risk-based mindset in the application of all processes.

With support of the Greenfield's Exploration team, the role will oversee the successful development and execution of all short- and long-term contractor management strategies that are heavily weighted to health, safety, environmental and community.

Accountabilities ( Include but are not limited to) :

Individual Accountabilities:
  • Lead and demonstrate a commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development through personal behaviours and leadership.
  • Lead, coach and shape the culture of the North and South American Contractor Management team be a valued team member for the Australian team.
  • Develop and maintain relationships within Greenfields Exploration's Operational and Functional Lead Team members.
  • Demonstrate leadership through personal behaviours that are consistent with South32 Values; Trust, Care, Togetherness and Excellence and the Code of Business Conduct.
  • Create and foster a culture that strives to add and drive value and innovation within Greenfields Exploration.
  • Implement improvement initiatives to streamline and leverage key opportunities in contractor management.
  • Develop and lead collaborative relationships with the Leadership Team, other General/Operational/Functional Managers, and roles within the Contractor Management System of Work across the operation or function and network within South32.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills for the purpose of engaging with internal and external stakeholders to influence key business outcomes.


Key shared responsibilities:
  • Help develop and execute agreed contractor management strategies for the Greenfields Exploration team to support delivery of projects.
  • Ensure each step of the contractor management model is assigned and delivered using a risk-based approach to the classification of project/contractor risks.
  • Facilitate contractor meetings for the end-to-end contract life including but not limited to kick-off, mobilization, review and close out meetings. Responsibilities include developing agendas, taking minutes and distributing records.
  • Ensure all records for contractor management activities are saved in accordance with record management processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with the Greenfield's team and supply chain to oversee the delivery of supply strategies based on the Greenfield's Exploration project pipeline.
  • Develop a contractor audit schedule centric to each project and monitor the efficacy of assigned actions, ensure opportunities for improvement are recorded and communicated accordingly.
  • Develop and manage internal departmental audits to measure the efficacy of internal processes in accordance with the Contractor Management Standard.
  • Demonstrate and take accountability for tasks, actions, and decisions as they are assigned.
  • Develop and proactively support the change, culture, and engagement strategies for contractor management, by collaborating with other functions like HSEC (Health Safety Environment Community), Supply and Training.
  • Maintain and take responsibility for developing an in-depth knowledge of legal requirements and community related to day-to-day management of contractors, reducing associated risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance, partnering with the Supply function.
  • Influence internal and external stakeholders in relation to strategic/tactical/operational decisions around contractor management system of work.
  • Proactively participate in the implementation of contractor management improvement strategies that improve the overall effectiveness of the successful delivery of Greenfield's Exploration projects.
  • Take ownership of the contractor management digital technology used and apply a continuous improvement mindset in the application and identification of new or alternative technologies.
  • Develop the supplier management plans that are project centric (this includes but not limited to Contract Review meetings, Vendor Management processes, Vendor Assessments, HSEQ plans etc.)
  • Develop, maintain and lead effective relationships with contractor management process owners' community, contractors, and other external stakeholders.
  • Maintain and support the governance of the appointment and database for stakeholders in the contractor management system of work.
  • Maintain and promote the governance of the local contractor management procedures for the Operation or Function.
  • Ensures that 1st line verification processes for contractor management system of work for on-and off-contract is executed for the Operation or Function.
  • Actively support and deliver on the contractor management learning content and ensures delivery of the learning framework for contractor management system of work.
  • Support reporting processes in line with set requirements for the Greenfield's Exploration team.


Qualifications, Skills, and Expertise:
  • Previous experience in a similar role managing supply chain, compliance, standards, and processes across an Operation/Function.
  • Relevant degree is preferred
  • Excellent negotiation, influencing and persuasion skills. Able to challenge people, situations, and current thinking effectively and creatively.
  • Enthusiastic and innovative with the ability to work autonomously
  • Skilled and credible in advising others on empowering people.
  • Exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Clear, concise, and influential communication skills.
  • Able to provide advice, develop options, analyse risks, make good judgements, and solve problems.
  • Experienced in HSEC and risk management systems.
  • Experience in vendor assessment and due diligence processes when selecting suppliers.
  • Experienced in vendor management processes to ensure alignment with supply chain processes.
  • Ability to help design processes to improve effectiveness of contractor management system of work.
  • 5+ years' experience working with governance or contract management
  • 5+ years' experience in a mining or related industry
  • Ability to consult and collaborate with others to influence positive outcomes.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Build and retain strong relationships with stakeholders and team.
  • Ethical practice and behaviours always.
  • Expertise and deep knowledge of the Contractor Management process and standard.
  • Ability to deliver on critical evaluation of risk.
  • Provide stewardship, coaching and support to others that enables their success.
  • Quality orientated with skills to operate digital technology systems.
