Explore the unknown:

Newcrest is one of the world's largest gold mining companies. As a global business, we aim to create a diverse and inclusive environment where everyone feels safe, valued, and supported to bring their whole unique self to work.

We recognise that our different backgrounds and perspectives help us find better ways to: solve problems; attract and retain the best people; explore, develop, and produce more gold safely and profitably; and help make Newcrest a better place to work.

Our Red Chris mine is located on the traditional territory of the Tahltan and we encourage qualified applicants from the local communities to apply. We offer several designated marshalling points within BC including Nanaimo, Vancouver, Kelowna, Kamloops, Williams Lake, Prince George, Smithers, and Calgary, AB.

We are looking for an experienced Superintendent for our Open Pit Mine Operations team. Reporting to the Manager Mining you will be accountable for the delivery of the mine plan encompassing safety, productivity, and cost deliverables. Through visible and felt leadership of the mining operations team you will promote a positive and inclusive team culture with a focus on excellence and world best practice mining standards.

We are seeking an individual for a Fly In, Fly Out opportunity working on a two weeks in, two weeks out rotation.

Accountabilities:
  • Provide outstanding safety leadership and guidance for the Mining Operations team with a focus on caring for people
  • Motivate, engage, and coach the team towards achieving safety, inclusiveness and productivity goals
  • Implement, sustain, and promote world best practice mining systems and processes to effect safe and efficient mine outputs
  • Provide input and direction across multiple planning horizons (Daily/weekly/monthly/annually)
  • Establish and manage the department budget inline with production forecasts
  • Be responsible for contract management of business partners with a focus on strengthening relationships
  • Lead business improvement projects with a focus to optimise the mine plan to deliver better than budget production and lower than budget cost results
  • Build effective working relationships with all departments and stakeholders through direct engagement, open and honest communication

Qualifications & Experience:

The successful candidate will be a strong leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will have a proven track record of promoting and sustaining a successful safety culture through visible safety leadership and the ability to influence large teams. Further to this you will have:
  • A minimum of 12 - 15 years of operational mining experience with demonstrated success at a senior leadership level
  • The ability to identify, assess and effectively manage operational risk
  • A track record of promoting a safe and inclusive work environment
  • The ability to multitask and make decisions under time constraints and with limited information
  • Demonstrated experience in cost and contract management

Our commitment to you:

At Newcrest, we hold core values that focus on caring about people, working together, and achieving a high-performance culture through innovation and problem solving.

Newcrest's commitment to diversity and inclusion respects both the rights of every individual to work to their highest potential, free of discrimination, as well as the cultures, religions, and governing codes applicable to each country in which we operate.

If you share our values and feel that you could make a meaningful difference in this role, please apply online before the advertised application closing date.
