Senior Legal Counsel - Contracts and Procurement

Employment type: full time, permanent

Work Location: Perth

Roster: Monday to Friday

This position is responsible for provision of legal support to the Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) Legal team to support construction, procurement and engineering/ consultancy transactions. The role will have responsibility for providing strategic legal advice, contract drafting and negotiation, to support FFI's domestic and international studies and large-scale construction projects.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a range of contracts including services agreements, equipment and material procurement, development agreements, design and construct, construct only, engineering and consultancy services agreements.
  • Providing strategic advice on different contract and delivery models.
  • Working closely with other disciplines including contracts and procurement, engineering, studies teams, operations, cost control and finance and other corporate teams.

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Bachelor of Laws
  • Admitted as a legal practitioner in Australia
  • +8 years' PQE as construction / major projects lawyer, particularly with an infrastructure or energy focus
  • Given FFI's focus on cutting-edge technologies and development, a familiarity with IP ownership and protection strategics is desirable
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment across multiple transactions and manage competing deadlines
  • Experience working across jurisdictions and on international projects highly advantageous
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, communication skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across the business
  • Strong work ethic and the capability to work with initiative and independence
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to find sound legal solutions to achieve commercial outcomes
  • Requirement to maintain appropriate and timely communication with FFI's GM Legal and GM Contracts and Procurement as well as other stakeholders
  • Behave in accordance with FFI's values to achieve stretch targets, generate ideas, act with integrity and work as part of a team
