The Senior Civil Engineer will be part of an engineering team providing engineering services to large and small projects.
The Civil Engineer is responsible for preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets and reports for both planning studies and the detailed engineering phase for multi-disciplinary projects. In the role of Lead Civil Engineer, the role provides support to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for supervising a team of civil, hydrotechnical, geotechnical, designers, draftspersons and GIS analysts.

The Civil Engineer provides leadership and assists in the resolution of all technical issues related to the discipline. The Civil Engineer participates in a wide range of projects that may cover earthworks, road and rail design, airstrips, villages, residential and commercial developments, utilities including pump stations, dams, drainage and permanent way layouts.

Key Responsibilities
• Assist the Lead Civil Engineer or Engineering Manager with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, quantities, cost and schedule
• Prepare Engineering Work Packages (EWPs) in consultation with the Lead Civil Engineer or Engineering Manager
• Prepare/assign work tasks (via signed off EWPs) to individuals and continuously monitor progress and quality
• Develop the manpower schedule to be part of the engineering and project schedule in conjunction with the other disciplines
• Develop the civil work plan for insertion into the project specific execution plan
• Develop and maintain the project scope of work documentation and revise as required during the design evolution
• Assist in the compilation and delivery of monthly engineering status reports
• Participate in and contribute to design reviews
• Represent the discipline in the project engineering coordination meetings
• Prepare and/or review project procedures, standard specifications and design criteria
• Review and evaluate technical work prepared by collegues
• Ensure relevant technical experts are involved in the design process as required
• Perform conceptual and detailed engineering design
• Prepare engineering calculations
• Prepare and contribute to technical memos and reports, within areas of expertise
• Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates
• Carry out assigned tasks within budget and schedule
• Stamp/sign documents and drawings as required and if appropriately registered
• Ensure co-ordination with designers and engineers within the civil discipline and with other disciplines

• Undertake construction supervision and management dependent upon project demands
• Support of site engineering team to provide technical solutions and timely response to technical queries
• Work to ensure the implementation of safety in design and integrity principles in design documentation
• Provide input to the closeout reports.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

• A recognized degree in civil engineering from an accredited university
• 10 years' experience in relevant civil design and management
• Extensive experience in the use of Civil3D
• Ability to manage and delegate to individuals to attain quality, cost and schedule objectives
• Experience with working on projects in a multi-disciplinary environment
• Sound understanding of design engineering codes and technical standards
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Good planning and organizational skills
• Ability to function with minimal supervision
• Good safety awareness.

Preferred

• Strong client focus
• Ability to delegate tasks and effectively supervise others
• Experience in the use of Hatch procedures, adopted standard software (including ProjectWise) and workflows in the execution of projects

• Registered professional accreditation.
