We're looking for experienced Data Scientists that are analytical professionals with a passion for delivering the best data synthesis, operating models and solutions to our entire business in North America. In this role you will engage with Senior leaders to continue to advance our analytics capabilities across all market and geographic areas. You may support Power, Mining, Transportation, Industrial, Oil and Gas, Building, Water/Wastewater or Corporate groups with actionable insights across any facet of their business.

District Overview

Kiewit Data Services' (KDS) mission is to make Kiewit the premier data-driven organization in our industry and market areas. To accomplish this, our projects and districts need to have the right data, of the right quality, with the right level of analysis, available to them at the right time. KDS is a cross functional organization with employees that have expertise in data, technology, support and operations backgrounds. Our core functions are Data Quality, Governance, Enablement, Analytics and Data Science.

Location

This position is based out of our Omaha Nebraska Corporate Headquarters.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a member of a team on complex tasks and projects assigned by supervisor to help develop decision support tools for the business.
  • Collaborate and work with a team following a project plan, utilizing best practices and group standards and provide detailed documentation of your work.
  • Execute the end-to-end analytics process, including cleansing, transforming, profiling and preparing structured and unstructured data, designing and building analytics and models, extracting insights and findings, visualizing outputs, and communicating outcomes to leaders.
  • Leverage quantitative and qualitative data and analytics methods to analyze client data across our market areas.
  • Define the business need, by conducting interviews with leaders, synthesizing findings, and identifying key themes coming out of your discovery process.
  • Develop data visualizations that highlight key insights to help our leaders make informed business decisions by explaining results of analysis to team members and working with end-users on how to use decision support tools.
  • Develop training materials and provides guidance to leaders on how to implement suggested solutions.


Qualifications

  • Interest in using data to solve problems in the construction and engineering industries.
  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience, performing functions as outlined above in a professional setting.
  • BA / BS in Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or related field; a demonstrated interest and ability in data analysis is critical.
  • Proficiency with the R language required. Experience with the Rstudio family of tools (Connect, Package Manager, Shiny) preferred. Exposure to other languages and tools a plus.
  • Able to apply analysis techniques for classification, regression, simulation and forecasting tasks. Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and model ensembles, real world experience developing and deploying models strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition via SQL, data lakes, external APIs. Able to support the development of dataset specifications for data engineers.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, employing effective time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team to meet deadlines, goals and objectives
  • Passion for learning new data analysis methods and tools
  • Excellent critical thinking skills, and a focus on principled and reproducible work is key
