Reporting to the Manager, Financial Accounting, Systems, and Reporting, the Accounting Supervisor is initially responsible for supervising the processing of accounts payable and leading our large and diverse accounts payable team. This role leads a fast-paced department that is crucial to the success of our business by ensuring our vendors are paid on time and accurately.

To be successful, we are looking for someone with strong leadership skills, who is also detail-oriented and organized in their work. This person is a motivated self-starter, who can prioritize competing demands, multi-task and find solutions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to uplift, motivate and empower others, would be vital for success.

In this role, you will be the face of Teck! This is an exciting opportunity to be a key member of our Coal Accounting management team and engage with departments all across our steel-making coal operations.

Responsibilities:
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Lead and support the processing of approximately 20,000 invoices per month
  • Allocate and supervise workload, as well as guide, train and develop a diverse team of 13 employees
  • Measure efficiency and operational effectiveness by establishing key performance measurements and reporting against established metrics
  • Establish and implement internal controls, maintain process documentation, and ensure compliance
  • Support the team in finding solutions and clearing roadblocks; find opportunities to improve efficiencies and processes
  • Follow up on vendor queries and issues in a timely manner
  • Coordinate with internal and external audit team members, providing supporting documentation and responding to inquiries
  • Advise and drive the implementation of new processes and systems


Qualifications:
  • Degree or Diploma in Business or Accounting
  • Minimum five years of accounts payable experience
  • Minimum three years of supervisory experience
  • Strong understanding of internal controls
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX ERP and SharePoint
