Reporting to the Senior Engineering Supervisor, Water Projects, the Contract Supervisor (Contract) is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of environmental baseline programs across Teck’s five steelmaking coal mines. This role also ensures the environmental protection and regulatory compliance of field work. This is a contract position, with the potential opportunity for an extension in the future. This role will operate on a flexible schedule dependent on project requirements with a baseline of full-time hours.

To be successful, we are looking for a strong leader with excellent interpersonal and organization skills, who can establish and maintain communication with multiple, remote field crews and programs. Furthermore, the successful candidate excels in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and can work with minimal supervision. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities would be critical for success.

Responsibilities:
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Supervise multiple contractors to ensure work is conducted safely and in accordance with the project scope, schedule and budget
  • Conduct job site orientations, pre-job meetings, review and approve contractor equipment inspections and pre-mobilization documentation
  • Develop, share and enforce emergency response plans and procedures
  • Manage access and communication related to blasting and Geotechnical Restricted Access Zones
  • Support the development, review and implementation of applicable permits, management plans, and associated regulatory requirements
  • Review and approve safe work permits
  • Prepare daily construction and field reports
  • Participate in worksite safety audits and incident investigation reports


Qualifications:
  • BC Mine Supervisor Certification, or working towards this certification
  • Standard First Aid for Industry (OFA Level 1)
  • Minimum four years of field experience in environmental monitoring, baseline collection or construction, in an industrial or mining environment
  • Proven track record in supervising contractors, including Permit To Work systems
  • Experience with heavy mobile equipment for civil earthworks, environmental protection, and jobsite reclamation, including erosion and sediment controls
  • Experience with environmental baseline programs
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite®
  • Experience with drilling programs with geotechnical and groundwater wells would be an asset
