The Havieron Project is the primary target of the Newcrest-operated joint venture with Greatland Gold and forms a key focus of Newcrest's growth strategy in the Paterson Province. The Project is located in Western Australia, approximately 45km east of Newcrest's 100%-owned Telfer mine.

The Havieron team, work in a highly collaborative environment, with interaction with early development teams, mining studies, mining and exploration teams. Our exciting Havieron Project the primary target of the Newcrest-operated farm-in and potential joint venture with Greatland Gold and forms a key focus of Newcrest's growth strategy. The Project is located in the Paterson Province, Western Australia, approximately 45km east of Newcrest's 100%-owned Telfer mine.

Who we're looking for

Reporting to the HSEC Manager, the role will drive leading practice environmental activities, in-line with external voluntary commitments (e.g. ICMM and WGC), that advance and integrate into broader business and operational planning, including the Life of Province Plan and mine closure planning.

As the projects Permitting and Environmental Manager, you will be responsibilities will include (but not limited to);
  • Manage the implementation and sign-off of any environment or permitting related studies required for growth in the Paterson Province
  • Manage and deliver the environmental and permitting (and approval) aspects of the Feasibility Study, including a complete ESIA
  • Ownership of water management for studies and into execution, including supporting exploration. This includes adherence to the Newcrest Water Stewardship requirements, ownership of the water balance and groundwater model and to proactively manage water issues
  • Provide environmental expertise to support project design alternatives as sourced from interpretation of environmental baseline data, environmental regulatory requirements and best practice examples from around the world which lead to more sustainable business outcomes
  • Incorporating Newcrest Environmental and Sustainability Standards into project design
  • Lead environmental and permitting risk assessments and ensure risks are tracked, managed, mitigated and reported, including for proposed future activities
  • Manage the integration of the Havieron Project with the existing Telfer Gold Mine for all environmental and permitting aspects (including water)

About you:

The ideal candidate will be highly experienced in a communication/stakeholder engagement-related background with operational experience or knowledge. Ability to provide expert advice and facilitate the development and implementation of appropriate environmental permits, approvals, management plans and systems relevant to the Havieron Project (exploration to execution), including biodiversity offsets.

Demonstrate absolute commitment and engage with regulatory bodies and other stakeholders as required to ensure project requirements are progressed and permits obtained in-line with project timelines.

To succeed in this role, you will be a motivated team player, with a can-do attitude and hands-on experience. You will be respected by your peers for your safety-first approach, ability to problem-solve and make decisions in dynamic situations.

In addition to the above key skills, you will also ideally have:
  • C Class Driver's Licence (Essential)
  • Bachelor of Environmental Science or Engineering (Environmental) or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in mining industry in the environmental and permitting field
  • Proven ability to lead strategic environmental planning and approval processes
  • Sound knowledge of the statutory, ICMM and other relevant industry bodies environmental requirements and able to provide competent advice on these requirements
  • Extensive experience in establishing environmental risk registers and implementation of controls
  • Experience in both exploration and construction in hard rock mining
  • Experience with managing environmental performance on operating mine, construction or infrastructure projects



Please note: This is a two year fixed term role at our Havieron Project mine site, FIFO from Perth on an 8 days on /6 days off.
