About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for two Leading Hand's to join our fantastic civil crews in Christchurch.

As a Leading Hand for Downer, you will work collaboratively with our Foreperson in planning, organising, directing, and controlling activities on site. You will also lead the crew when the Foreperson is off site ensuring we meet the needs of our customers.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to step up in their career and lead, whilst still getting the chance to get stuck in and drive trucks, operate state of the art machinery, and undertaking some manual labouring tasks.

About you
We are looking at applications with proven experience in the Civil Construction and or Roading Pavements industries. Ideally, you will have demonstrated skills in the following areas:
  • Carpentry
  • Bridge maintenance
  • Concreting and structures work
  • Drainage is not essential but favoured
  • You will also be proficient in the use of construction plant; Rollers, Loaders, and Excavators

Essentially, you will be solutions focused, a strong planner, and able to deal with unexpected events and provide direction to work teams. Your excellent communication skills will be utilised to empower others as you champion a zero harm work environment.

You will be a part of a team that designs, builds, and maintains 25,000 kms worth of roads in Aotearoa. With over 150 years of projects and knowledge under our belts, our vision is innovative and future focused.
