The Opportunity

Reporting to the Lead Financial Accounting Australian Operations, the purpose of this role is:

Purpose:

• To support the Team Lead to manage all internal financial accounting processes to meet monthly, quarterly, half yearly and yearly reporting requirements
• To provide leadership and expertise to ensure reporting of timely and accurate financial accounting information for the Group and JV Participants (as applicable)
• To ensure all accounting regulatory requirements are met
• To ensure that a fit for purpose internal control environment operates and is effective for financial accounting and reporting requirements

Key Accountabilities:

• An overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development
• Coordinate the period end close process for Australian operations and provide support to Financial Accounting Analysts
• Management and control of the Balance Sheet for companies as allocated responsibility for. Actively engage and work with other functional areas (eg Tax, Treasury, GBS, Site based Finance Business Partners) to ensure accurate financial accounting information
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve and simplify various accounting activities occurring throughout the year
• Ensure that a fit for purpose internal control environment operates, is compliant with Group requirements, and is effective. Complete verification processes over internal controls as scheduled and/or requested
• Prepare, review, have audited (as applicable) and timely file all statutory financial statements for companies as allocated responsibility for
• Provide all necessary financial accounting information as requested by JV Participants (including cash calls)
• Ensure all group consolidated half year and yearend financial accounting and reporting requirements are met
• Provide first level accounting advice to site-based finance teams and engage with group on more technical and judgmental matters
• Liaise with external auditors in the provision of required information for half year, year end and entity financial statement purposes
• Execute the require capital management activities in conjunction with Treasury ensuring that legal entities can legally meet the capital management initiatives

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce
• CA/ CP equivalent accounting qualification
• Detailed understanding of finance processes and deliverables in a global corporate/ commercial environment
• Advanced understanding of accounting issues for mining operations
• Attention to detail
• Problem solving and root cause identification skills
• Passion for continuous organisational improvement
• Experience with financial ERP/ ECC systems (preferable)
• Experience in coaching and influencing teams
• Experience with South32 finance processes is highly desirable
