Long Term Planner
  • Great opportunity to network, collaborate and partner with mining operations, world-leading technology suppliers and maintenance planning professionals
  • Work from our State of the Art Operations Centre (Near Perth Domestic Airport)
  • Flexible working arrangements available, flexible hours and opportunity to work remotely

About the role

All progress begins with pioneers. At Rio Tinto, it begins with you.

We are looking for a Long-Term Planner to join our newly formed Long-Term Planning team within AMES, in a Perth based role out of our Operations Centre. This is a great opportunity for an engaging and motivated individual to create a global benchmark in strategic asset planning.

We are an open, connected international team of technical specialists using some of the most exciting data and tools on the planet. We are the world leader in automation and smart mining. We have technical development programmes that are industry-leading and recognise the unique nature of your role. These provide opportunities to grow your career through a dedicated technical path while being rewarded for your unique skills

The team will develop and employ a centralised asset planning framework (people, process, systems, and structures) using the latest planning support technologies (AMT, WOL models), which will be tightly integrated with engineering/asset data (digital assets) and operations.

With support from the Superintendent, Long Term Planning, your role will:
  • Develop long-term asset budget forecasts that optimise risk while meeting business objectives
  • Work closely with engineering teams and sites to ensure that the zero-based long-term plans align with the standardised whole of life cost models
  • Liaise with logistics and asset health teams to ensure that long-lead items and resources are budgeted and provisioned on time
  • Work closely with operations and site short term planning teams to enable operationalisation of long-term plans, budgets into short term and shut plans at a quarterly cadence
  • Analyse the conformance of maintenance execution with maintenance plans to identify improvement opportunities and work with asset data, engineering, and finance teams throughout the change management process
  • Integrate the long-term plans for each operation into their respective Asset Maintenance Shutdown calendars

What you'll bring
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team (standard for all job adverts)
  • Demonstrated experience working as a Maintenance Planner, preferably within mineral processing, heavy mobile equipment or in similar industry
  • Solid understanding of the current planning and budgeting technologies available
  • Demonstrated performance in asset life cycle planning, financial and risk analysis
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills

What we offer
  • A work environment where safety is always the number one priority
  • A permanent position working directly for Rio Tinto
  • A competitive base salary reflective of your skills and experience with Annual incentive program
  • Comprehensive medical benefits including subsidised private health insurance for employees and immediate family
  • Attractive share ownership plan
  • Company provided insurance cover
  • Extensive salary sacrifice and salary packaging options
  • Career development and education assistance to further your technical or leadership ambitions
  • Ongoing access to family-friendly health and medical wellbeing support
  • Leave for all of life's reasons (vacation/annual, paid parental, sick leave)
  • Exclusive employee discounts (banking, accommodation, cars, retail and more)

About Rio Tinto

Every idea, every innovation, every little thing the world calls 'progress' begins with
a first step, and someone willing to take it: explorers, inventors, entrepreneurs. Pioneers.

For nearly 150 years, Rio Tinto has been a company of pioneers - generations of people spanning the globe, all with the grit and vision to produce materials essential to human progress.

Our iron ore has shaped skylines from Shanghai to Sydney. Our aluminium - the world's first to be certified 'responsible' - helps planes fly and makes cars lighter. Our copper helps wind turbines power cities, and our boron helps feed the world, and explore the universe.
Our diamonds help us celebrate the best parts of life.

Where you'll be working

The roles are based at our state-of-the-art Operations Centre (OC) located near the Perth domestic airport. Flexible working arrangements are available. You can take advantage of an ideal combination of working remotely, from home as well as spending face-to-face time with your colleagues on a regular basis. You can also expect the occasional meeting at our head office located at Central Park Building in Perth CBD, with site travel required from time-to-time.

In the Pilbara region of Western Australia, Rio Tinto operates the world's largest integrated portfolio of iron ore assets with industry-leading margins. Our premium product suite, including our flagship Pilbara blend, drives strong customer relationships and is supported by technical and commercial marketing expertise. The iron ore business continues to be the world's largest autonomous truck operator and a proud leader in automated mining technologies.
