Position

Fekola Underground Project Manager, Mali

Introduction

The incumbent is responsible for the overall management of the Fekola Underground Mine project including development and production contract tendering, contractor management (mobilization and development), developing the owner’s team and systems required for successful underground mine development and production, and overseeing underground teams and operations to meet development and production targets.

Location and Reporting Structure

Reporting to the General Manager, Fekola Operations, this position will be a fly in-fly out rotation, based at the B2Gold Mali Fekola mine.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the underground development and production contractors, ensuring that construction, production, safety and quality targets are achieved.
  • Assemble and develop the owner’s technical team including engineering, geotechnical, geology, survey, and others as needed.
  • Coordinate resources with other site departments. The underground development and production will be simultaneous with open pit mining operations.
  • Develop mine management and reporting systems appropriate to the scale and duration of the project.
  • Conduct conceptual mining expansion studies and lead approved projects to execution.
  • Conduct economic analyses and trade off studies of different schedules and operating scenarios.
  • Oversee and coordinate Short, Medium and Long-Term Planning functions for underground.
  • Manage underground production and construction related projects.
  • Prepare or oversee underground long-term mine plans and annual budgets.
  • Oversee development and stope designs, stope optimization and blast ring designs, to ensure efficient and optimal reserve extraction.
  • Analyze production data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance to all B2Gold Safety, Health, and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate cross-functional and cross-project learning opportunities for underground mine team.
  • Perform other duties as required in support of Company objectives.

Competencies and Requirements

  • Degree in Mining Engineering (B. Eng. Or B.ASc)
  • Minimum 10 years of combined experience as a mine engineer and/or operations manager in a mechanized hard-rock underground mine with at least 5 years of supervisory experience in this setting
  • Strong knowledge, expertise and understanding of underground mining and techniques including development, long hole open stoping, and backfill
  • Experience in the development phase of a mine or major project
  • Experience managing mine contracts and contractors
  • Experience with cemented rock fill will be an added advantage
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Excellent knowledge of mine design software: Deswik Suite, MineSight, Vulcan, Mine 2-4d, EPS Scheduler, Note: B2Gold utilizes Deswik for underground mine planning and scheduling.
